I’ll take a photo of the lazer tonight when I get home from work. It came with the tripod etc. it self levels up to a certain amount but it’s got a little bubble level right on the side of it so you don’t have to guess how close you are etc. @05snopro440 yeah the top is pretty close if not exactly parallel with the top flange of the frame rail. The boxing plates are inset 1/8” and the bottom of the spring mount bracket is pretty close to the bottom of the boxing plate. I did it that way so if I wanted to rotate the end of the bracket down to pre load the spring I didn’t need to move the bolt that holds the frame end of the spring. I can just pivot it. on that note, there are two triangle shaped gussets that will go on top of the spring bracket once it’s 100%
I think this is probably the most recent version of the laser I have. I’ve had mine for a while. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D12VP9V1/?tag=atomicindus08-20 they do go on sale for quite a bit of percentage off if you keep an eye on them.
Here's the pictures with the page headers visible: Let's Talk Cyclecars ...and searching for that publication leads here to the original article: https://archive.org/details/sim_aut...22/sim_automotive-industries_1922-06-01_46_22 Neat stuff...
Ran across town to a friends shop to get this old worn out 650’s off and get the 750’s on! man that’s for sure the better way to do it! Grabbing lunch and I’ll have them bolted on soon!
Man the diameter of a 750-16 is dead on the same as the wheel opening on a 28-9 sedan fender! un real. No wonder it looks so good! got both mounted to the axle but the ride height is wrong. next step is lifting the frame and shifting the jack stands to get the *** end up at least another inch. When it was sitting atop the old banjo and wheels the top center of the wheel opening was right at 32” from the ground. that in theory gives me around 1/2” between the top of the tire and the fender edge at top center
@05snopro440 I think you missed the part where I took the rear suspension apart. But once it’s back together it should more or less be where it’s supposed to be. The frame is sitting on jack stands right now, I’m needing to get it sitting at ride height and the wheels centered before I put it all back together. But after all that if it needs to come up yes I can just use the adjustment bolts and get it dialed in
I have one of those Harbor Freight tire changers. It has paid for its self many times over, I have the motorcycle adapter for it too.
I tried to bring mine into the garage tonight so I can work on it this winter. I failed. I'll try again in the coming days. I think I am going to fab a quick tow apparatus to hook to my tractor to make it easier to move.
@Six Ball we were talking about how crazy it is that people try to use them with out it being bolted to something unmovable. Very handy tool, worked great. @05snopro440 good idea! Could put a strap around the perch pin. Grabbing the axle and wishbone or bolt a push bumper to the rear and shove it around. I’ve also seen a lot of anchored rings that you could throw a pulley on. Hook the car, run it threw and attach it to the tractor to pull it
Been a very up and down couple of weeks with this thing. this morning I spent half an hour getting the frame blocked up to correct ride hight and centering the axle, dialing in the rear axle center line etc. The I spent 70 long minutes fighting the ladder bars. I really wanted to have it mocked up and tacked in today. But this car had other plans. I couldn’t get the front of the ladder bars into the cross member tabs with the ladder bars bolted to the rear. It’s just to tight and ya really gotta wiggle them around to get the bushings and etc in place. But with the fronts bolted to the cross member tabs- which isn’t attached to anything- I can’t get more than one bolt in to the rear axle tabs. With one bolt in the drivers side the p***enger side may as well be outside of the garage playing with the neighbors dog. It is not even remotely in the right place. It’s so far off it can’t even see the right place from where it is. these are things I unbolted moments ago. Did not remove from the car. And now. Not a chance it bolts back together. right now I’m thinking I remove the entire rear axle, ladder bars and cross member from the car. Some how get it together not in the car and then roll it into the car. but the problem I’m seeing there is the cross member is fit so nice and snug between the rails that I don’t know that I can maneuver the cross member into proper position with it all together. you can see the problem here. it’s as if I’m going to have to just randomly pick a placement for the cross member, then tack it in place. ***emble everything and see how wrong it is. Take measurements from there and try it again. I’m completely over it. It fought me at levels that even working on it out of spite could not conquer. I buried the car under moving blankets and cardboard boxes. Shut the light off and locked the door behind me. This is supposed to be something good in my Life and right now, it’s just a decade long running wheel. And I’m pretty ****ing done with it at the moment. I keep feeling like I’ve got it sorted only to then completely take it back apart and do it again, and then be excited I got it…. and then jokes on me it’s wrong and have to do it over again, and again, and again. guess you’ll get updates again after I have some epiphany of solution, or I light it on fire in the driveway and broom up the left overs into the bin.
I hate it when things get to that level of frustration.....it should be working but isn't, and just keeps fighting. Time for it to sit and "think about what it's done." A little time off, a clearer mind and a fresh set of eyes later and I bet something just pops the light on and you aren't as far off from getting it together as you thought.
Yeah. I need a brake. I’ve been in a fair amount of pain the last couple of weeks and today has been pretty bad. I was hoping to distract myself with the car today and it just fought me, I need to find a book or something to read until I can physically manage this.
Sorry to hear about being in pain, I know the feeling. I delt with a sciatic nerve in my right leg back in September and couldn't do anything in the shop...It's hell getting old. Hope you start feeling better soon.
Sorry to hear you're burnt out on it right now (and in pain). I've certainly experienced the burnout on a project. @drdave nailed it, I sometimes let a project take some time to "think about what it has done". I'm a little confused about what isn't aligning. Seeing as the crossmember tabs are welded on as you receive it, is it the alignment of the crossmember to the axle or ch***is (since your ch***is has such a significant rake)? Or is it the axle brackets that are misaligned or not quite in the right spot? Hope you rest up and can find your motivation again.
Man. I finally get caught up in your thread... just in time for you to have one of those days. I was there a couple months ago on my coupe. Walked away and came back after a couple days. Changed literally nothing just tried it all over again and it worked that time. Sometimes you both just need a break. Pros: -Stance is still killer -Tires fill the fenders great -Unchopped with that rake is what dreams are made of. -you know it works because it was just together a few days ago and you really didn't change that much to cause it to not work (that almost certainly means the solution will be something equally stupid) Cons: -it's just being a little beotch at the moment. -you're tired Get some rest. Give it some rest. You'll figure it out another day. Whats up with the pain? Did something happen or is this someone you've been dealing with?
Well, @Tim, you remember what the gov't hacks told Lone Watie (Chief Dan George), who then related same to Josey Wales (Clint Eastwood): "You must endeavor to persevere." There ya go...
I hope it is not an emergency brake! Seriously, we all need a break from time to time. Cars are supposed to be fun and the****utic, but they can turn into quite the opposite. We can be our own worse bosses, setting unrealistic expectations, being overly demanding, micromanaging and ruining moral in the workplace. I go on strike once in a while, declare a holiday, go golfing or just pour a nice Vicodin and bourbon and take a mental vacation. Bosses, they're the worst!
Maybe you need to borrow Lone Watie's piece of candy that "is of lookin' through" to see the problem. Just let it be and I bet you'll wake up in the middle of the night with the answer.
Hey guys, thanks for all the comments. I do appreciate the community here. I work on the car a lot as something to keep my mind occupied, and to cope with stress as I’m sure a lot of us do. I also never let hurting keep from getting stuff done… typically. It just wasn’t my day today. The ladder bar dance, I think I know how I’m going to attack it when I go back but it basically felt somewhere between trying to put shoes on a 110 lb dog and playing catch by yourself. I’ve been in an unusual amount of pain for the last couple months but I was dealing with it, but this morning I kicked a door frame getting ready for the day and broke my pinkie toe. By the time I got to the garage to work it began to hurt to breath. I’m not sure what I did but it feels like I bruised a couple ribs. I couldn’t lift my lunch with my right arm with out my torso hurting. Over the afternoon the pain got a little better but my hands keep going numb/tingly. I think I probably have a m***ive knot or a pulled something or other. either way I knew when I walked in there that I probably shouldn’t even bother but you know how it goes. I’m gonna give it a week or two and then hopefully with out a lot of ouch I’ll get back to the car. I’m not/wasn’t feeling burnt out as much as angry/defeated/frustrated. I’ll figure it out.
