I want to use a male 6 A-N fitting on a late model Quadrajet fuel inlet housing. Before I buy one, will an inverted flare fitting work to replace the original tube nut and flared tubing? Does the inverted flare on the A-N fitting have the same 45 degree taper as the original flared tubing? I know there are A-N adapter fittings to replace the factory fuel inlet housing...I don't want that. I want to use the factory carb fuel inlet housing and screw an A-N fitting into it. Thanks for the edjamacation!
First of all, AN is a 37 degree flare. Inverted flare and SAE flare are 45 degree. They are not compatible with each other. If you put a -6 AN male on your carb, you need to match it up with a -6 AN female swivel fitting or a flared tube end with a -6 AN nut and -6 AN ferrule. It also requires a 37 degree flaring tool, if you decide to flare tubing.
I think he's thinking of using something like this https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-220667b if so, it will work to screw into the original Qjet 3/8" inverted flare fitting, and he can attach a -6 AN type fitting to it.
Op & others stick with Name brand A/N or Jic Especially on the aluminum ones, One's you see that are off brand are under cut , & if weighed on gram scale There lighter , crack under vibration Easily, Even just tightening to correct torque, Anodize less mills , not corrosive resistance , & not correct wrench size's, Not correct spec Aluminum grade.
Winner, winner, chicken dinner! I wasn't sure about the angle of the reverse taper in the fitting. I have a Parker JIC, but didn't want to snug it up without first knowing whether it was going to destroy the tapered seat in the carb inlet housing. Thanks fellers!
