Projects Bought a Mercury on purpose

When doing an electric trunk latch release, I've been mounting the electric part on the Body side and the catch to the Trunk Lid. Keeps from running a power wire past the hinge system. On the other hand, I like using a Morris type cable to the Stock latch and having no electric at all. A cable is more forgiving over the years than wires. Just food for thought.

 

I’ve got a NOS cal custom remote release kit
Also might use and extra door lock I have and use it to open the truck. Just have that single stainless lock on the trunk

Valve cover scoop idea is interesting, I think it could work. Would be curious to see what they'd look like if the opening area was more of an arc instead of straight up and down, but the bolt hole bosses might make that tougher.

Mine had been finned oil filters with the tops cut off.

Hmmmmm if only you had a shrink ray, if they were 1/3 smaller in scale they could be cool.

As they are, to my eyes, they look too big and clumsy. I like the idea though!!!

 

Gonna use separate bases. Probably stagger em up some from front to rear

 

I like the creativity. My suggestion is a little more space between them. I.E. little less length on each.

 

Generate a radius across tye fronts perhaps. Combined with what you did on the prototype. They need to be a tad shorted, front to back.

 

Getting there... I was talking about a radius in the front plane, viewed from the top. Trace a 40 oz beer bottle bottom over it.

 

Did you think about using one cover open at the front for all three carbs? Kinda like an early Hilborn style scoop.

 

We plan to make square individual filters with a stainless mesh for each one

 

I would trim off the gasket flange on the sides so they don’t look like pieces of valve covers. And match the curve of the front cut to the curve of the back. Just me….

I had thought this too, if the bases aren't parallel with the carb tops, they could lean back a bit for more scoop effect. Would be a bit more work to make bases that aren't totally flat but might be worth it, would be easy to mock up.
