Hood tachs

Discussion in 'Off Topic Hot Rods & Customs' started by scotty t, Nov 27, 2025 at 12:12 PM.

  1. I’ve always liked hood tachs but i’ve never had a car with one. I know they came on Pontiacs and i believe on Fords. Did Any other brands use em? Post pics of hood tachs factory installed or add ons please. Would one look good on my 68 chevelle?:D
I swiped some random interweb pics to get this started

I like them inside the car, usually, on top of the dash, just to the right of "straight ahead".

But I did put one outside recently, although there's no hood involved :)

  3. I’ve got one on the dash too, it suits my 56 chevy better than a hood tach. On the right era of cars hood tachs look bad ***. I don’t know how useful they are tho

I made a "speed boat" mount out of a stainless street elbow from Summit, used RTV to glue the SW tach in. This is on my dune buggy.

Guess ya don't slam the hood closed when you have a tach like these.

Would be interesting to see how many still work.
They were not very popular in our area when they first came out.

I’m thinking about adding one to the 60 Bonneville. I just think they’re cool.
