Post Your ZZ Top Eliminator Photos

I'm looking for photos of the ZZ Top's 33 ford Eliminator. Old, new, engine, interior, ch***is and build photos. let's see them.

 

Those wheels may be considered too modern for the main board, could get put into the OT side, always liked the car, the graphics, not so much, big fan of those boys from Texas.

I'm thinking the OP is wondering if the car still around and what it looks like now or same .

Every girl's crazy (could have stopped right there) 'bout a sharp dressed man, but I was never crazy about that car. Thus, I have no pictures of it, but it was and is a good album.

 

My understanding they still own it and it's the same. It's an iconic hot rod whether you like it or not. But there is a generation that grew up looking at that car on album covers, posters etc. 30 yrs from now there will be a large group of rodders wanting to where it's at, is it still around or hidden in a barn somewhere and does it still look the same...

The Eliminator coupe sure made a splash when it was in their videos, but my favorate Billy Gibbons car has to be Copperhead. HRP

Yeah Billy has that unique quality of owning/building hotrod the way he wants them, not by some code.

I guess that's why I always liked his cars, his taste is inside the box, outside the box and just what ever hit his fancy at that time.

@HOTRODPRIMER I think those 2 cars pretty much some up hot rod and custom.

They aren't the best in the custom or hotrod genre out there but I'd be filled with total joy if I could walk out into my garage and see them sitting there waiting to see which one I was driving today...

Cadzilla is one of those cars you either love or hate, not sure where I sit on it, BUT the body work, craftsmanship and execution on it is amazing. It's one of those cars that looks like it was built just to see if it could be done...

Well since this is on the Off Topic forum we can agree on the "outside the box" comment. Billy doesn't build cars, he builds great riffs and that great west Texas sound. Having schooled in Abilene, I love that music and I loved that coupe when I was a kid. I don't play guitar, I do play the wire feed, play back up grinder and I am somewhat versed in the paint gun. I envy his musical licks. "I gotta gal that lives on the hill, she won't do it, but her sister will..."

 

I like Billy’s cars, maybe because they don’t follow the rules similar to ZZs music.

And like a Pearl Necklace, there is nothing wrong with that. One of the reasons I like the new OT forum. We could have never had this discussion previously.

 

Gibbons is a true hot rodder, I’ve done some crazy **** but Master of Sparks is like the ultimate crazy. Not sure what car or truck was pulling the sphere but it’d be cool to see the steel sphere dragging and emitting a stream of sparks behind the Eliminator on a full moon lit night on a lonely Texas highway.

I know this is a WTF moment but one of my favorite ZZ top songs is "t.v. dinners". I like the slow beat, the guitar, and I can relate to when I was young and poor and eating the same thing every night because it was cheap. Another one is "Rough boy", again a slow beat, good rhythm and killer guitar.

Lots of innuendo's and slang talk in their songs and either you knew what they were talking about or you didn't, no Google back then to search.

One of my top 10 bands of all time, really can't say of one of their songs I didn't like.

 

Have great respect for the band and the car, but I was more of an Allman Bros, Skynyrd, Marshall Tucker kind of guy.

 

Saw them in concert in'84.....Eliminator Tour. Was a helluva show, from what I remember

 

1982 as a 14 yo looking for some Tush I wrote a fan letter to them. To my surprise months later I received a letter back from the fan club. The funny part was that the responce adress did not have a single line right and yet it found it's way to this foreign kid.

My name was misspelled, street ad was wrong, zip was wrong and so was the city. Finnish post office really did their job Sadly I have lost that envelope during the decades but still a fan.

We did not have cars like that here back then. Music TV started previous year.

 

La Grange! Yeah pretty much any ZZ song! Of course I always wanted the car or a copy of it!
I do have the double ZZ key ring like the one in the music video!

 

A few I took at the 2019 Street Rod Nationals, always loved that car.

I love Southern Rock, but never really considered ZZ Top a true Southern Rock band, more of a Texas Boogie sound; kind of like SRV. I do love a lot of ZZ Tops music, great stuff and BG is an amazing guitar player, I have seen them a bunch of times in concert.
For Southern Rock, my favorites are Molly Hatchet (With Danny Joe Brown), Lynyrd Skynyrd, Blackfoot, Charlie Daniels and Marshall Tucker. I love the Allman Brothers but to me, they are more of a Southern Blues sound.

 

Actually, I thought ZZ Top was just a little too gimmicky...What kind of killed it for me was the spinning furry guitars

 

I get that. El Loco and Degüello are both great albums and their live Fandango album is excellent, great cover of Jailhouse Rock, all pre-Furry era.

 

You have to remember Eliminator and Afterburner were released during the height of the MTV music video craze. Everything was over the top. I saw them in 85 or 86 can’t remember for sure anyways great show. I like the videos from that era. I personally think the first 6 albums are the best.

I saw both tours, excellent shows and I love the Eliminator album, seen them several times overall. When they played Cincinnati on the Eliminator tour Sammy Hagar was the warm-up band, what a great concert. Several great songs released since that era such as 'My Heads in Mississippi' and ' I Gotsta Get Paid'. Billy G has released some great solo albums with his band too with a return to the Blues.
