    Gang,
Im looking for a good thread to build a 35/37 ch***is thread.
I sent my flathead and 39 trans to get freshened up..
Id like to start building the frame..
I have a stock 37 frame but i dont want to cut it up.
I also have the 37 frame rails,a dropped axle and a 9 that was once attached to said frame.
    Thanks in advance

I have pretty much completed my '36 ch***is. I built it for a Y block engine, F150 3 + 1 transmission and parallel leaf rear springs over a 9". The only big cut I made was to take the center box out of the X and replace it with something I fabricated, which I needed to do to accommodate the transmission. I used a '37+ steering box and ch***is mount to get the better easier? steering design.

Looks like you want to use as '39 transmission, what are you planning for an engine?

Seems like that is what I picked up for the flathead - think it's still running a tourqe tube.....have to uncover it and see.

Should be same or similar to most 35- 40 ch***is builds.

What’s you vision look like as a finished pickup?

If going parallel leafs on rear, I would suggest the Posies setup...

Any pics of what you have?

My vision is simple, flat head,3 speed, hydraulic brakes, wide 5s or wire wheels, lowered, fenderless(I dont have fenders and cant afford rear fenders)
    Just a local parts getter

Looks to be a straight forward build.

You might not want parallel rear leafs for a
    fenderless build for cosmetic reasons.

Ok, went back and re read, not sure why you wouldn’t use you the stock 37 frame.
Also, do you really need a 9” for that driveline?

  9. I’d keep the stock rear

building a low slung bobber truck?

If it’s a local parts hauler, think long and hard about channeling it.

Whatever you do, replace the spring mounts on that rearend. They look like garbage that could snap off with any bump.

I thought you were after a stock style ch***is pickup minus fenders.
    Bobber, that’s a different animal.

"Bobber" Area-51 is referring to is a term often used for low fenderless pickups.
Ditch that unsafe welded looking rear end and find a stock 35-40 rear or you are going to have to convert that 39 trans to open drive also. As mentioned, flatten the rear crossmember if you want it low

If you are going to use a 9 inch, no use going through the extra struggle and expense of the’39 trans. The “hidden” stuff could be more modern and tougher.

If you are going full bore vintage, you might want to research the style that pickups were built back then.

Use what you have to save money? Not if you need to buy conversion kits to adapt the non-matching parts.

I do value your input and i read all your posts and threads, you're one of my favorite members to look for early stuff,i dont know if im not clear,,i have a 1937 frame and
Running gear(flathead,39 ******,37 sock ibeam, unsplit wishbone,37 banjo with all mechanical brakes,1947 truck hydraulic backing plates) and I have a 1937 butchered frame with a dropped axle, disc brakes,9" rear end,all the linkage, just trying to decide wich one to use.
    Thanks in advace

  25. A 41-53 ish truck 3 speed would have the slip yoke. I’m currently piecing together an A beater.
I’ve located a 41-47 truck banjo and a top shift truck slip yoke trans. If I go flathead.
The trans, rear plus the 41-47 front axle (can’t use the front axle) have 4 nice 16 inch steelies and juice brakes. All way cheaper than an open diff/trans conversion

Looks like you have the makings of a good start for a shop truck. Based on what you’ve shared: decent ‘37 frame, engine, front suspension, rear end and ‘39 transmission. Sounds like you have hydraulic brake parts but will need pedal set from something like a ‘39 Ford. Maybe a set of radius rods for the rear?

Personally, I’d use all the old stuff. If I wanted the truck lower I’d use traditional methods. But nothing drastic. Course, I can’t picture a good looking traditional 37 truck without fenders.
