Now that the 36 is 90 years old, and respected as a cool car... whatcha got?? show some pics and story's.. for me... I got my first 36 sedan in 1975... the usual done to it for the era.. power train done..283/ power glide. 57 chevy rear.. drop axel up front... drum juice brakes...
my 36... mostly I just look at it.. and wanna be real careful what I do to it.... it's a 90 year old survivor... bone stock... but how boring is that... still has mechanical brakes.... I would like to keep it OG as possible with a little custom/hot rod flair...I'm kinda fine with the brakes...they don't go fast enough to really need a brake up grade running around the neighborhood ...the stock flat head... it has dual exhaust.. and looks to be a aluminum manifold??? don't know if they come that way or not??? so the mods I think I wanna do is lower it a little.... put 750.16's on the rear...and leave the rest alone??? the front will come way down with a reverse eye spring.and a drop axel and hopefull not have to mess with the stock wish bone.... but thats as far as I got...thinking and looking at it...
also. I had this thought....a 36 axel is I believe 2'' drop...and a drop axel is 4"??? so, part I'm unsure is the problems to run into with 4'' and lever brakes... I think it would be ok??? and the reverse eye get another 1'' so 3'' total??? might be too much??? probley go to 550.16 up front.. so thers a inch or so more??? will it work???
I purchased my '36 just last year from a gentleman in Iowa. He took pride in his truck by having extensive work done on the engine. The body was in great shape (no plastic!) and a clever slide on/off wooden cover was added to the bed. I did a little modification to the cover by adding some stiffeners & a lock. The rest of the truck is almost totally stock (all mechanical brakes, stock dash, etc.). He converted it to 12V by adding two 6V Optimas in series under the bench seat, along with a charging port & a disconnect switch). My immediate plans are to convert the trans to a T5, convert the brakes to juice, and change the steering setup to a Vega box with a tilt column. I want to keep the outer appearance "stock" but have the added safety of better brakes, steering & transmission!
cool... my dad used to run with the windfield's in modesto... so naturally he had a chopped carson top 36
Could be because there is already a thread? https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum...th-anniversary-event-for-the-36-ford.1017129/
Alldone. I like your version of boring. That is one great looking 1936. It maybe one of the best looking ones.
Here's my 36..trying to figure out these rear seat jig saw puzzle pieces..I didn't take it apart and all the upolstery was done
I'm pretty partial to '36 Fords and have a few. I just don't think there is a much better-looking car. My 5 Window: I've owned it for 14 years. It was a mild custom/high school hot rod in the 1950's, a drag car in the 1960's and 1970's, then something in between until I got it in 2012 and turned it into a mild custom: My Phaeton: It is an old Bay Area show car from the early 1960's that hasn't changed much since. Here is a thread where I'm looking for more information about the previous owner, Joe "Rebel" P***alaqua. (I still am) History - Looking for information on 1936 Ford Phaeton / Joe P***alaqua - Bay Area, CA, 1960's | The H.A.M.B. My 3 Window Coupe: I don't have any history on this car. I purchased it from an estate sale in 2018 and it came with no story. It was just an old half-*** hot rod. I took it to my buddy, Brandon at East Bay Speed and Custom and had it chopped. It is still a project, but it's next in line for completion. I wrote a story about finding this car on my website if you care to read it: Estate Sale - 1936 Ford 3 Window Coupe – ironandsteele I have some particularly cool things in store for this one and it's not what you're expecting... www.ironandsteele.com
thaat would one of my dream cars, that or a roadster..all the ones i find are too much for me or fibergl***..
there's another thread, and from what I see... it was started in 2016...so musta started life as a 80th anniversary... and then the ***le was changed each year??? and last changed to 89th anniversary....I don't know for sure what happened, so not gonna say... but this is the 90th version...could delete I guess if it is offending people... thanks to those that post' and love 1936 fords.. merry christmas to all and to all a goodnight
These are a great newer item available from Carrillo Customs on Los Osos California and available in both 3” and 4” drop. These are the 3” versions I just got for my 36 phaeton. They are essentially a well designed lowering block for 35-36 Fords
