It’s stuck on pretty good. How do I remove?

I would think make the flywheel immobile and a socket/ breaker bar

If all else fails, drop the pan & block the crank.

How do you safely block the crank?

  5. Jam big old screwdriver on the flywheel ring gear ( thats what the starter hits ) Have someone hold the screwdriver so flywheel can't turn. Now if it's really really tight carefull you don't tip the whole engine stand over.

show us a picture of the back of the engine...then we can suggest how to keep the crank from turning.

    I got a Chicago Pneumatic 734 I bought in '68 that'll get it out in 10 seconds.

  12. Impact wrench without a doubt. If it was loc***ed, you will have a terrible time with a breakover. I have been down that road before on a newer engine.

  13. Hollywood and wfo are spot on. The jarring of the Impact works for me, anyway.

Take out a spark plug, wind the crank to bottom dead center, feed enough rope thru the plug hole to lock the piston when turning the crank back to top dead center.
Now try your power bar and socket again, when bolt is free/undone, turn the flywheel to release the pressure on the rope and remove it from the plug hole..
A whack on the bolt head might work as well..

If you don’t have an impact wrench, use a 1/2 inch breaker bar with a shallow socket.
Use a heavy hammer, like a hand sledge, smack the breaker bar.
    That’s one mini-impact.
Wear eye protection, gloves, disconnect the negative battery lead, etc, etc.

    ^^^^^ Never for this situation.

  23. Don't forget to leave a bit of the rope hanging out the spark plug hole!

Because you might bend a rod but best case you will leave a dent or burr in your piston,

I've had some luck using a 3/8" manual impact driver, sure, they say they are only meant to be used on small bolts but the shock using a small sledge hammer may loosen it, try a couple clockwise and counterclockwise hits, they also make 1/2" versions that may be better suited for your application.

  27. I think it's stuck due to turning engine over with the bolt, but no balancer present. So, not likely too tight. Impact, or right size box end, and a couple or raps with a sledge or heavy ball pein hammer, in the right direction, should do it.

Looks like a new build, cheap grade 8 bolt that was used to spin the engine around. 40-60 lbs. torque? Anyway I’ll have to write this down in my journal of things not to do.

If using a breaker bar and smacking it, I've learnt that a two foot piece of 2x4 works way better than a hammer which is likely to glance off the polished round bar.

Put a socket on the bolt along with a long braker bar jammed against the frame and hit the starter ****on (switch). Just don't do this on a reverse rotation Honda engine.
