Got this stalled out 50 Chevy truck project from my sister and brother in law. Has all the sheetmetal, my BIL dis***embled the bed, needs some rust repair, and sitting on S-10 ch***is. I picked up a 68 Olds 455 (Delta 88 version) that I plan to use in the truck instead of the common SBC or later LS engines.

Correct, the car for sale in Scio is a coupe and has been listed for $2500 for a while now. Seller states the motor is locked up...It certainly is tempting me to get it and try to unstick the motor.

Certainly not saved from the crusher or from being forgotten but I did resurrect these neat old magnesium American front runners.

They had been blasted before being listed for sale. I worked on matching them to my magnesium Halibrands.

    As purchased.

I gently polished the lips. After working on just one, I compared the two.

Here are both wheels ready to darken.

I applied some chemicals to oxidize them.

After a few rounds and drying them completely, I applied Gibbs.

    And on the car.

It's a couple months later and I ***ume had I not worked on oxidizing them there'd be little difference from when I got them. It's just so dry here.

Here's the detailed process from a thread:

I don't know if "saved" is the correct term. Maybe relocated? But I did buy this '31 Vicky from my friend's estate auction for a future project:

And, from a friend of my father's estate auction:

And recently, these came from that same auction, from the dude that bought them there:

So, I have the frame, 2 cowls (one pretty rust free, the other to use to replace some damage), hood top, junk radiator & rough shell, headlights, and all 4 doors from a sedan. The plan being a lakes/modified style '27 Buick roadster. Obviously, the frame will need to be shortened a bunch. I need to get busy.

We solved a major issue with our 1954 house this year. We replaced all the sewer lines from the toilets on the inside, and from the house to the city street outside. Wasn't very glamorous, but it was something that needed to be done if we wanted to continue living there.
The end of the year found me repairing my wife's off topic appliance car and saving it from going to the crusher for another few years (hopefully).

Saved this from my uncles garage which it had been sitting for the past 50 or so years. Last tagged in 1972. Picked it up over Memorial Day weekend last year. I have been after this car for years and finally got the opportunity to bring it home.

This was literally going to s****...my friend who runs a tow truck let me know about it...it had sat outside for decades standing on its cowl (which had saved the subrails) a failed '80's-'90's project with a van roof welded on... I had the rolling frame under the roadster (that the buyer didn't want) which had the engine # ...I went through the regi process and dug some cowl pieces up... unfortunately I had been purging a lot of model A parts earlier in the year (I actually had had most of the pieces to make it complete lol:rolleyes:) a nice guy came and it's already at the body shop apparently :)
    * the o/t Pontiac was also saved directly from the junkyard (where the forklift operator was busy knocking all the doors in) was cherry with 50,000 original miles before the owner p***ed and as such pertains to this thread...I did the regi process and gave it to the wife who loves it

And last but not least...I saved these 2 old timers...1 from being parted out and s****ped the other from being "yard art"...the rear section was stumbled across by my friends wife out for a dog walk...it was difficult to identify but eventually I settled on it being a '28-9 Willys Knight model 56 3w coupe...then a buddy had this cowl and doors sitting in his yard as "art" which I have indentified as a '29-30 Willys Knight model 70 sedan...The '30-2 Desoto 4 dr. sedan was a hot rod project that fell victim to a fire then was used as yard art for awhile and then was being cut up for parts and going to s****...the owner also had a pair of x brand rear 1/4 s on the barn wall so an idea popped into my head that maybe I could turn it into a 5w coupe...so it seems my forte has become to save them and p*** them on to someone who might do something with them rather than building hot rods anymore:rolleyes::( ...oh well whaddayagunnadoo?...... fuggedaboudit:cool:

My 32 Plymouth had sat in a barn for 12 years. Got the engine free'd up, recored the radiator, replace the rotted intake manifold, rebuilt the the brake and fuel systems, removed 5 mouse nests, and got to drive it for the first time in 2025.

..I saved myself from the grief of saving anything else this year, actually trying to get rid of 50 years of stuff I've ac***ulated...

EDIT:...I also gave a bunch of stuff away in '24 & '25 when I sold an extra lot I owned that had a 3 car garage full of stuff...all went to good homes.

Sometimes saving stuff means to send it to someone that wants to build, or use it.
I sent some stuff on to the next caretaker in 2025.
