I've been around here for 16 years. Things have changed, for sure but I miss Tech Week, "How to" and build threads by people like Alex Gambino, El Polacko, Flop, MP&C, Cody Walls, Jamey Jordan and others. There used to be a lot more "How To" threads that taught me and others how to build better hot rods and customs. These guys were pros and helped us all build better cars. I miss that.

When I read your Buick build thread, I was under the impression that you were a pro!

    Not even close but, Thanks!

Also, I forgot Cornfield Customs' Mike Wagner. He is a maestro of metalshaping, as well.

There are still plenty of talented/smart guys on here. They just aren't blowing their own horn, so to say. Tech week should happen regularly, IMO, one of the HAMB's best features

If you want to follow those "pro" guys, I'd bet they are on Instagram or some such

I follow most of those guys on either YouTube, Facebook or Instagram, as well as Lazze, Covell, Peter Tommasini, six_four_stout, Bello's Kustoms and others. I'm always trying to learn more about metal shaping and building my cars better. Each one is better than the last, so I guess I'm progressing.

There are too many people here that have no hands on experience actually building anything, that are willing to tear down anything someone may post, that was not done in a method then think, or have heard was the correct way to do things.

If you want to see tech done by actual people building things, look at the actual build threads on here and the off topic section.
Then, if you don't have factual knowledge about the subject, don't criticize the subject. Ask questions to learn or understand why something was done, or remain silent. If you have actual factual knowledge something is wrong, ask questions concerning the actual issue.

Do***enting work performed during a project build makes a build 3 times longer, and is a pain to explain step by step. To have people that have never done anything remotely close to the "tech" criticize the process, makes the effort to do***ent the process seem like a waste of time.

  15. I miss alot of things, the tech tips, how too’s , etc. I also miss going to events ( but that’s another story) .

I only made a build thread on my Nash this year because I appreciate when other people make build threads and thought I should contribute equally. I'm not sure what percentage of active HAMB members are still building cars anymore, but I feel like it's likely less than it was 10 or 20 years ago.

I like the Tech posts too, although no one is stopping anyone from posting a thread with TECH in the header, even if it's not a designated Tech week.

It's unknowable how many people have been able to fix things themselves, solve problems or enhance their own skills through reading what other people have posted on the HAMB or other forums in general. It's great that the HAMB still exists despite many internet forums closing up, losing their combined searchable knowledge forever.

We can't take that for granted. The number of issues I was able to resolve because someone else posted the answer on the internet for me to find years (if not decades) later is very large. The least we can do is repay that favor to future car builders by posting how we do things and techniques we've figured out.

I’m honestly not on here much anymore . And I definitely don’t post , the main reason is I’m extremely busy also extremely frustrated with the Hamb I hate to spend my time posting content , and it gets deleted because of stuff in the background of a photograph Or a change of format for some mysterious reason pictures don’t show up anymore. I can’t tell you how much of my stuff got deleted over the years never to be found again so I stay away . I miss the old Hamb . I miss the tech stuff . But honestly why post anymore when that bridge has been burned so many times …….

Sorry to hear that Cody, I enjoyed your posts. Completely understand the feeling of positive turning negative, though. I frequented a few other forums over the years and chose to stop participating.
    Keep doing your p***ion.

This is a huge point. I'm not on Insta; Cody's points resonate loudly to me. This by itself is a heavy loss for the HAMB community. When a platform suffers from data and moderation issues, it burns its most valuable ***et: its contributors.

Experts like Cody provide the technical backbone of this site, and when that ins***utional knowledge is discouraged or lost totally to technical glitches or over-moderation, the site loses its purpose. I hope we see this as an opportunity to right some wrongs —a technical forum is only as strong as the trust its experts have in the platform’s stability.

I was admiring an exceptionally beautiful black flathead-powered 1932 Ford Coupe at the Autorama. I complimented the owner and asked if he's a member of the HAMB. He said "Not anymore." And he added, "Nobody's on the hamb anymore." I replied, "Oh c'mon... plenty of good people still on the HAMB." I walked away.

I get a little tired of hearing how much better the HAMB used to be. I know how the HAMB used to be. And it's debatable.

Nothing against the OP per se. I understand that there are fewer builds and technical posts these days. But there are still plenty of good people who've stuck by the HAMB for a long time and still share and contribute what they can.

But I guess it's not good enough for some of the touchy sensitive "top tier" members who didn't get the attention they feel they deserve from the lowly newbies who came after.

    So they left.

    Good.

Deleting a post because a moderator doesn't like the wheels is just plain stupid. There I said it. It is just my opinion. I have had a post of a Hamb friendly car being deleted because of the wrong mag wheels. I have no idea what era most mag wheels were made in. So unless the car has arrest me wheels with banana skin tires on it who cares? Again just my opinion.

Deleting pictures because of the wheels on a car in the background is stupid, especially if those pictures were some on topic tech build process. When the in process pictures disappear, the tech becomes pretty much worthless, and the effort extended to make that tech post was wasted. If you have never done a tech piece you have no idea how much effort was put into it. If those tech posts get deleted a few times, new content doesn't get made.

That has nothing to do with someone having hurt feelings or seeking attention. People make tech posts with the idea of showing someone how they did something, with the intention of helping them.

Busy people have to spend their time at places where their effort is at least preserved. When a site looses content as often as it has happened here in the past, busy people take their efforts elsewhere.
The people that are still here have little desire to waste the time to make a tech post that may soon be gone, or may be criticized by those that have no experience on the subject. We are now just hanging around in a friends garage shooting the BS, like everyone else.

It doesnt have to be Tech week to make a technical post. Hell I think it might be a good idea to start an "The Official tech tips post". Where we can share tech posts no matter how simple in a short format. Couple pics & some details is often all thats needed. Then the thread can always be found, added to & grow. Perhaps inspiring some longer more detailed tech threads.
For example I had to "dimple" some headers this weekend. Not something major & probably as basic as it gets to some but. I learned some things through the process that made things easier & yielded better results than just giving them the ol ball peen hammer beatdown.

Appreciate the build threads we do have, and either comment on them encouragingly/positively or "like" them....who knows maybe more people will post them up.
    Negativity normally doesn't inspire people.

I’ve deleted **** because of political stuff in the background (flags and what not), but never because of wheels or similar…

Also, the HAMB hasn’t changed formats in over a decade and NEVER have we lost content because of it. EVER.

The only time we’ve ever lost content was by choice when I stopped supporting social groups.

  28. The hamb is an amazing resource. If you miss the old hamb, search something up and resurrect it. Off topic has been a huge concession/shift, and a major liberalization. I choose to embrace the greatest reason to visit the internet. Long live the hamb!

As for this… man, put in and you’ll get it out. Get motivated, build something, post the process. We need more of it for sure.
