Technical LYONS Wire Wheel Cover Picture Thread

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by Retson the Racer, Mar 4, 2026.

  1. I need a little inspiration for these old caps, does anyone have any cool photos of hot rods with these caps?

  2. I'll start with my favorite photo of the Pagoda City Coupe owned by @IronTrap 3c5464d5ff7b5e27c0de1683e66f9d06.jpg

These are original 17 inch Lyons on my pickup. I really want to chrome a set of 17s and run them with those. But it would be a waste for the amount that would show.

Do your 17”ers have a stainless band around the outer edge like the 16”ers do?

It's my understanding that they were all available as plain, with the stainless band, or full chrome.

I didn’t know that. I’ve only seen the plain with band, or the all chrome ones. Yours are the first all plain I’ve seen. You ever seen any real 18”ers?

I had a set of original 16s without the band. In original paint. Wish I'd never sold them. But got crazy money for them. So they had to go. Lol

I've never seen original 18s and these are the only 17s I've come across.

I’ve got a set of original 16” with the band. I searched many years for a set and finally found them a few years ago. I’d love to put them on my sedan someday, but would require buying a new set of tires which isn’t in the cards right now. I actually have one extra cap that I’ve had for sale in the cl***ifieds, but no takers yet.
