My 36 3 window coupe has a SC ***le with a build VIN number (not original sn). I've found the original serial number on the frame but I've had no luck getting the VIN/SN changed on the ***le. My question is on the SC ***le it's got the following info: 1. VIN/SN on the frame my sn is 3,200,**x "on a ***le should the VIN/SN be 18-3,200,000 being the 36's production numbers started with 18-x,**x,**x? or should it be just 3,200,0001936 2. Year: 1936 3. Make: Ford 4. Model: ***le has "coupe" shouldn't it be "68" for a 1936? 5. Body Style: my ***le has "2S". Body style for a Tudor Sedan is 700, roadster is 710. what's the Body Style designation number for a 3 window coupe? also does the 3 window and 5 window coupes have the same body style designation number? thanks for any help.
My '36 Cabriolet came with a Va. ***le. It does have an "18" prefix in the serial number but just has a "Conv." body designation...no distinction between Roadster or Cabriolet. I ***ume those are "old time" terms no longer used by the DMV (like 3W & 5W).
Go on fordbarn.com ,a sister site to this, register and ask to get correct answers to your ***le question.
As long as the serial number matches the frame number without the "18" prefix, I wouldn't worry about it.
I bought a truck project that came with an out of state issued ***le for the body and the included frame. The information I was given was that once the vehicle was completed, I was to have two ID tags made that match the numbers on the ***le, and to put one tag on the body, and the other tag on the frame. The issued ***le number with the matching number tags on the body and the frame would be the forever identifying ID for the truck. Any other numbers on the body and the frame have been superseded by the state's new ID numbers. After I attached the new tag to the cab, I removed any other tag numbers I have found from the cab, and then I mounted the new frame tag next to the original frame number.
My ***le starts with the 18-******** so I’d ***ume yours would as well. Good luck with the DMV here they are clueless about cl***ic cars. Best bet would be to call the main DMV office and ask the questions.
OP, the original serial number has nothing to do with body style, just the number that the engine and transmission rolled off the line with. If you have an ***igned number from some state , you should probably just leave it. It’s perfectly legal anywhere the car gets sold to.
You have an ***embled vehicle from the state that basically says that the car has two doors and you have your ******* in a knot because it says 2S rather than a 700 something body style number on the ***le" . Just be glad you have a clear no h***le ***le with matching vin on a state ***igned tag on the car. It's a hot rod that was put together out of pieces and that is what the ***le says when all is said and done. Just be glad that you live in a state that will ***ign a ***le to a vehicle built out of pieces and let you drive it and find something else to whine about.
wasn't whining sir! just curious as to what the original ***le would have said. thanks for your little grumpy old man comment anyways . and yes I'm absolutely grateful!
Ultimately if ***le legal issues come into question, contact your States Motor Vehicle Department for direction and or answers. Thank you, Moderator
