Hot Rods A-V8 on a Two Post Lift?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Richard D, Jun 20, 2026.

  1. Anybody put their car up on a lift? I don't think the arms on my lift will extend enough to fit the narrow frame.

My 34 roadster fits on my 2 post (asymmetrical arms) just fine.

A with cowl hood and radiator shell.jpg My '30 A Speedster fits my two post just fine.

  4. My lift is a MaxJax "portable" lift, you bolt the posts wherever you want them. I spaced them so my 'Vette would fit. I don't have the A frame yet, but online dimensions put it at only about 25" up front tapering out to 42 at the back. Not sure where the mid point would be, balance-wise, with a flathead V8, aluminum heads and intake. My arms are about 36" apart, with them at a reasonable angle.

With my lift ( maxjax) you choose your spacing before you anchor it to the floor so the Model A was top of mind when I installed it as I recall the posts are 120" apart. Although with that spacing opening the doors is problematic. My 4 door Tacoma also fits.

  8. The arms are all the same size on this lift. Posts are 9' apart. Phil, where on the frame do you put the lift pads on that Maxjax? I'm guessing a flathead V8 weighs roughly the same as a small block Chevy. I am using a steel '26 T roadster and short home-built bed, '39 trans and banjo rear, so I'll probably be front heavy.

It turns out I shouldn't rely on my memory for dimensions, my posts are only 94" apart. Am not quite sure where the 120" came from.
For most work I put the front pads under the split bones about 12" back from the axle and the back pads are even with the back of the doors. I agree we're pretty front heavy. I'd be curious to know how much but not enough to buy scales.

I don't know. It looks sketchy to me. Are you also using a some type of cross member to go from one side to the other for a more stable balance?
    Or am I missing something?

The main thing is to have your front rear balance right but that is on any vehicle you put on a two post hoist and don't remove any part that will mess up that balance drastically .
I used single post hoists for years before working in a shop with 2 post hoists and got in the habbit early on of raising the vehicle about six inches off the shop floor and doing the bounce test to see if it was going to stay exactly the way I wanted it to.

110" between insides of columns. It's a 9000 lb rated lift.
