Technical David Freiburger is building a hot rod

Former hot rod magazine editor David freiburger just started a model a project and he just posted a video on YouTube, lots of good basic know how

 

He might struggle with that tunnel ram hahahaha

***my bad, having now actually watched the video I realise it is actually a TR, in the thumbnail it looked like a cinderblock LOL!***

 

I watched that last night. Honestly, one of the better vids for newbs like myself in terms of understanding the fundamentals. I love how everyone is just working in sandals. In Quebec, folks call them gougounes . Lol!

 

Watched it also, a basic build with good explanation of the basics and a couple of tricks by guy helping him

 

It seems to me. That his only concern will be , that it will do a really big burn out !!!

 

Our own @SamIyam IS helping him, They are good friends and Sam built the F-Rod for him....

 

DF does everything except drive race cars wearing shorts and sandals. It's a California thing

 

He ain't never had a floor jack roll over them little sandals, nor a starter drop straight down!

 

When you've had a heater matrix explode over your feet and legs you'll never drive a car without shoes!

 

Fryberger seems really good at p***ing work off on those he gets to help, probably because he’s not a can do guy…or he’s just a lazy ***.

 

Thanks for posting - DF sure has a good track record of Cool stuff he has done.

 

He's a guy without a ton of "free" time and without his own shop where he can actually fit a car.

Looked to me like three buddies building a car with the more skilled fabricator teaching the kid about hot rods. I prefer to look at it positively.

 

It was a fun watch, I'll watch it again. It was great motivation and cool information because I'm building an A, but I also enjoyed the "buddies building a car and teaching a young guy" feel of the video.

I look forward to seeing this car progress. He's posted pictures of the stance he's going for on his social media, it's going to look awesome.

 

That F-Rod is fast..think it got into the 8's in the 1/4 mile.

 

I thought, well I'll just watch a little bit of this, but I ended up watching the whole thing. Pretty good stuff.

David Freiburger has done just as much for this hobby as any of the big names we love and praise.

Fully respect the guy and always enjoy anything he spends his time to put out.

His approach to cars aligns pretty close to mine in that they should be enjoyed by using them, whether they be shiny and mint or just plain roadworthy, DRIVE YOUR ****.

 

Why the animosity? lets just sit back and watch, there is no doubt he is a car guy. HRP

What channel is it on? Pay TV of some sort?
All I use is free Roku TV so I only get older show stuff like Roadkill Garage but now they are even switching the old stuff from free to pay to watch ****

 

8.501 at 155 mph, no electronics, carbureted, mechanical fuel pump. It has an 8.50 cage so it can't go any quicker and he's not interested in putting any more cage in it.

Well having a very low opinion from his Road Kill days I wasn't sure about this video. But it was actually really well done, and probably because Sam is guiding him through it.

 

He's done a ton for the hobby. Big time "buddies ganging up on a garage project" vibe with him and Dulcich.

I'm gonna make time to watch it.

One of his mantras that has been spurring me on-"dont get it perfect, just get it running". This speaks to the people like me that have perfection issues, and other brain funk that makes it hard to do anything when you can't get it done perfect, so nothing gets done even if you're motivated.

I finally pulled the trigger on my project. It's never gonna be a show rod. Sure, I'd like to not be embarr***ed to pop the hood, but otherwise, the goal is to get it running and driving. Refinement can come later for a guy on a budget.

I really have no idea who he is. Never watched Road Kill, but did watch one of his recent vids with Derek from VVG. Like his stuff so far.

 

If you ever picked up a Hot Rod Magazine between February 1992 and February 2022, he had a hand in it. He's arguably the best living historian of the hot rodding hobby today.

 

Today in SoCal they are Flip Flops. In the late 50s we called them Thongs. They were from Japan and cost about 40 cents a pair on sale. They'd last about a month. In the 60s we all wore huaraches basically Flip Flops with the sole cut out of old tire tread and leather straps. We always brought 2-3 pairs back when we went to Mexico.

Another SoCal thing you'll be hard pressed to find a hot rod with a heater core.

He's a magazine editor that can wrench. "How-to" magazine articles are basically to promote a shop or product. It was about conning a part for your car then doing an article about the product being installed and how it performed. Getting a shop to install it for you was the norm. You got it done and the shop got some free ink. He did a lot of wrenching with Dulsich (spelling?). I think a lot of his plan here was to sit back and let his son be hands on learning from the master. I'm certain the kid now knows everything about pinion angle......

 

Good stuff and a must see for folks new to the hobby. This is how it’s done.
And you know it’s right if @SamIyam is involved.
