Technical David Freiburger is building a hot rod

The build won’t appear in sequential episodes. We are working on it again soon, and I have a m***ive stack of parts that will help us keep going. The engine will probably be the third installment. But I bet it’s 6 months before it’s moving under its own power.

Thank you Dave; you’ll be happy to know that Patrick’s oldest son Tyler is now in the drivers seat at each of the last 3 Bonneville World Finals. 2026 will complete the retirement of the roadster at years end as Tone Motorsports is stepping up in a faster cl*** with a proven car we now own. Yes in the far future there will be a spot for our great grandson Sabastian who at 10 months has had his first Bonneville experience.

Derek from Vice grip garage. He the guy that calls a distributor, a "lighting-wirly" . Some of his odd names for stuff, I'm: "WTF he say"?.

 

Looking forward to the rest of that build. My banger Tudor gets sad when I start watching stuff like that!

I enjoy the DF videos. I found myself taking a little more time, and taking different routes on a desert cruise to Ventura and back last year after watching some of his stuff. I used to just go flat out point A to B.

Being in my 50's I like what you & other's side kick bud's have done for hobby ,race , car culture ext .
showing & teaching in Some cases to say Hey just bolt's , fix, think outside box when broke down & some no bling
do not need to all be pristine.
Just drive it !.

Any ways back to the A , have you announced engine size & spec .

Hi Dave, didn't expect to se you here! Yes I still have my '53 Stude. The big Hemi needs a new block, and I'm knee deep in a Show-Rod build that is nearly road worthy. I have every intention of getting back out there with the Stude.

I moved to Florida to do the same. It was tough working in flip flops when it's cold

 

Bob D'Olivo was a task master on photos. I tagged along when Petersen brought back Sports Car Graphic and they borrowed Carroll Shelby's Daytona Coupe for an article. They sent Randy Lorentzen, probably their top photographer at the time to shoot the article. He got lots of great art and I was surprised when I saw the proof sheets. There were 2-3 (under 10%) on each that were red marked with notes from D'Oivo on why they weren't acceptable. As a side note mine were always 20-30% junk - and those were for Kit Car, not one of their top books.

I just spent the last three hours watching your episodes of buying, fixing up and road-tripping Gumby with Derek Bieri. Deeply satisfying entertainment that means so much to me late in life (I'm 77 and a bit frail now). Gumby is so reminiscent of my first car, also a '29 Model A standard coupe, but with a trunk-hinge. All of your hurdles were eerily familiar to my experiences in my coupe back in 1969. As I watched, I kept saying to myself, "Yup, been there. Yeah, that one, too. Oh, hell, yeah, damned distributor/Tillotson/head leak/dead cylinder/gas contamination/dry gearbox/etc." It was like you two compressed 18 months of my life into a tight video adventure. I also was impressed with Sam and your son working with you to hotrod a Model A. What a wonderful experience and I look forward to following further progress. Meanwhile, I've got another '29, this time a Model AA of my own to finish up, so I'm still trying to hotrod, too.

They're still called Thongs down here ...... and the US version Thongs are called G Strings.

 

Ya gotta love them Model A hot rods. Great instructional video covering some basics for those just starting out on their hot rod journey. I especially like that garbage bag tire mounting trick. Had not seen that one before. Nice to see the kid getting in there hands on and gaining some experience too.

 

I didn’t care for him on roadkill, too much stupid stuff. I started watching him on you tube and was very surprised, in one of his videos he explained they did lot of stuff for tv. Maybe 12 year olds watch roadkill tv.

 

Just finished watching the video, I learned a few things. I had to laugh when he talked about the Chevy engine in the Ford, then olds in Buicks etc etc. Hot Rodding 101

I find it funny how many people are upset at another person's choice of work attire. I am forced to wear steel toe shoes while at work every day so pretty much everything i do outside of work is in flip flops... and I only wear long pants when the temp is below freezing (freezing is 65 degrees).


I enjoyed the video and I learned a few things. I know it was posted but watch the videos of getting Gumby running then driving it. Then think about how soft we have become in the last 100 years.

 

I think it is a great video, in the beginning he says there is nothing new or groundbreaking with this build.

Personally I see nothing wrong with that, Some times the tried and true is the best method!

Do I like looking at other people’s fab work yes absolutely! However tons os fab work aren’t necessary to had a cool little hot rod.

But by the same token looked at the front wishbone mounts they built and thought “Why, would you want to carry anymore weight with you than necessary?” The racer in me!

I am. form believer in form follows function!

It is also not my car!

Larry Watson, pinstriping **** Gonzales' Studebaker. I'm pretty confident Jesus wore them as well, when he was doing his carpentry.

 

Such a cool build on this car and all you guys are worried about is clothing fashion ???

It's like you're all in the corvette club and are only allowed to wear jorts and white NB's ! How about concentrate on the car, wear what you're comfortable in and don't worry about the next guy. .... good grief ... a hot rod forum that acts like an HOA !

 

I find it funny how many people take a nonsensical comment and reply as if it were serious. I wear whatever the **** shoes I want, everyone else should too. I wear my work boots just about every day and I don't even work anymore.

 

Not to get this thread OT but that AA is cool. I can't understand why so very few are built like this. An AA that can carry, tow and cruise at 75 MPH all day, what's not to like.

 

I didn't see any discussion of Members Only jackets and gold chains in this thread......

 

Ill think about it but im pretty fond of it.

I have never seen another one in person .

I enjoyed how you showed figuring out ride height, pie cutting wishbones , figuring caster before hand . Good info for guys getting into this. A rachet strap compressing the front spring down for example .
