I have had people call me an expert on oval track racing and it’s history (in a good way), I always reply I am a student of history not an expert.

No one can know everything, there is always more to learn and you will always find someone who knows something you didn’t know!

 

Years ago I was at a Fairlane Comet Falcon car show. Older guy had a nice 64 hardtop Falcon with one of those boards giving information about the vehicle. One thing I noticed was he had it as a 1963 model Falcon Futura, so I asked him the obvious question about the year. He showed me some stampings in the sheet metal and it was indeed an early Nov, Dec 63 build. Do you correct somebody like that or just walk away?

"Wow, I know years ago some states issued paper based on build date vs model year. We're they still doing that in the 60s in some places?" Now if he wants to look that up he can. He's got an out, maybe he's even got a new shtick in that he can tell folks it's a special pre-production model [cough-cough, ********]. Either way you did your thing indirectly.
