This car is sitting in my shop right now. I am about half way through getting the body back how it should be. It is the Stephens and Venables ride out of Texas and Venables (Senior) himself came by during the US nats to check it out. His kid is in my shop quite often as we do quite a bit of work for the Pedregon brothers. This is also the car that Rahn Tobler started his career with. Roo Man
Late 60's through the early 70's were the height of the beautiful and functional Top Fuelers and Funnys. Chrome, polished aluminum and magnesium, and anodizing everywhere. Ever wonder why so many cars had gold painted halibrands?? Just try keeping those things polished week after week. They were a bitch! Look at the shitty looking things they race now. Very functional but nothing to look at. Even the paint jobs on the pro cars suck. I ain't into vinyl wrap.. Bring back the 60's style. LOL Mike
Also- http://www.wediditforlove.com/ but ya got to pay to see the Surfers stuff Great behind the scene pics and recollections though.
Heres a few Colorado rails of the 60s-70s. Alan Bockla was the man to beat around here at that time and ran out of Denvers F-M speed shop. Of course the last pic isn't a rail or even a drag car. The Peek bros. out of Denver who were main-stays of Colo. dragracing in those days built this roadster to run at Bonneville. I figure those reading this thread would appreciate the simplistic beauty of this car. One of my all time favorites.
As far as I know, Gordon Tatum still has this car exactly as pictured. He only had it out a short time and put it away. I know he had some kind of financial or tax problems a few years ago and sold a lot of stuff, but not the car. It's beautiful in person. This thing is tits! Mike
My taste tends to the austere, short-bodied cars with bare tubes out front, but the sleekest car I ever saw was the Smirnoff Special. Gorgeous. I think probably my all time favorite was the Adams-Enriquez Double Eagle. A pair of injected hemis.... stroked 354s if my memory serves me correctly. What a sound.
Hey, you nicked that pic off my website! Cool! I took it at the Smithsonian while we were there on our honeymoon. I think it was the Smithsonian, either there or the NHRA Museum in Pomona. Here's another one I took when I was at the Fuel & Gas Finals (2000) earlier in the trip.
