Inside of these there are just "SEMA approved"-stickers. Nothing else. No size, not anything. That´s why I wanna know...

Originally my chromed tube axle was in a 55 Chevy Gasser, built in U.S. about latesixties.

Holy Cow!!! That 33 is BAD ASS!!

Is it steel or one of the old glass bodies??

  4. It may help if you could post a pic of the inside of the wheel.
The backside of these wheels were done differently from mfg. to mfg. most times.
I have a few extra slots I could compare to.

Seems that there may be mfg. info on the inside of the wheel, between the bead seats if you have one sans tire.

  7. juhap.......That could be any one of probably 20 brands of aluminum slot mags made for many years. I doubt you'll ever know for sure.

Aussie Hambers......... What brand are these Australian made spindle mounts? Most Americans have probably never seen them. I first saw them in the mid 70's when Jim Walton brought this beast of a fuel altered over to New Zealand to match race our local hero Pete Lodge in his Fiat fuel altered. Good Times!!

  8. Here's another Australian altered with these spindle mounts. Can anyone give us some info on them? I have seen them on Australian drag cars in magazines for years. I know some made it to New Zealand also.

I'll Bet some track records were set that day, just based upon the clothes the people were wearing, it looked COOL outside.
    just an observation.

  10. Found another Australian made spindle mount. This is a 13" 10 spoke made by Amos.......
I'm still waiting for info on those other Aussie wheels. What size are they? are they aluminum or magnesium?

  12. Here's a famous old Aussie drag car. What kind of wheels are these? Wake up you Aussies, with the time difference you should have already read this like 15 hours ago or something.

Great thread for sure. Here's mine...The aluminum slots on the front of the Studegasser came off of one of Shirley Muldowneys first bracket cars.

Talk about your BIG WINDOW Halibrands! ha It's kind of funny, but those are very similar in design to what some of the BILLET wheel co.s are putting out now.
The Aussie 10 spokers are neat too, great pics BTW...

Don't know what they are, but they look like a one spoke HURST mag. Definitely cool looking.

  16. kiwi,
i may be wrong but i think the wheels on jim waltons altered are some early ones of ian splatt of dragway wheels not sure of the diameter might have to consult some early aussie hotrod mags. the wheels on the deuce roadster are john english he actually owned and built the roadster. one of our hotrod pioneers he had a speed shop at frankston in victoria i think. being a wheel freak myself i love this thread keep them coming.

  17. Here's an old Australian ad from 1966. I used to have ALOT of old Australian magazines before I moved from NZ. American too but I had to get rid of them, bummer!!

  18. Here are a couple of New Zealand gassers from the 1970's. The 12 spoke spindle mounts were made in NZ by Graham Berry. He is one of my all time hot rod heroes. A speed equipt' manufacturer and race car builder from the early days of hot rodding in NZ. I believe these wheels are aluminum..........

    The Anglia(Prefect) is F'IN' Rad!!

  20. Graham Berry was partnered with Dave Chung in the early days and they produced Berry & Chung [B/C] speed equipment. The had a full line of intake manifolds, valve covers, shifters and alot of other stuff including wheels. Here is an aluminum Cragar style wheel center they produced. They would put them in different sizes of steel rims.

  21. I remember this Gold flake T from my childhood, he ran B/C front wheels like the ones above.........

Kiwi Kev, Stop, your making me wanna cry..

  24. Another shot showing the B/C Radir style wheel. This is the first hot rod I ever got a ride in . I was 12 or 13 and when I hopped out I burned my leg on the pipe. OUCH.

  25. B/C also produced these wheels. Hard to tell in the pic but they have a lip around the holes like a Halibrand. These are aluminum.

This is going to be dumb, but are driving with spindles street legal with no brakes?

  27. Her are some more NZ made spindle mounts. They are Towco Engineering items made from magnesium. Don't know how many they made but I bet it wasn't many..........

  28. The legality of no font brakes probably varies from state to state. I'd bet it's mostly illegal but in California it used to have something to do with vehicle weight. Check your local vehicle code. Several years back I bought a book from the DMV that had all the vehicle codes in it. Don't have it any more and I don't know if you can still get them but worth checking into.
