    Junkyard Jan,

Please read Jeff B2 and Big Dad posts they are 100% right when they say American Graffitti is very close to the way it was in '62 and the '50's. It may sound a little corny to you but that's the way it was Honey! There is a lot more to this time period, try reading Roger Jetter's book you can buy on the hamb. Jetter is 40StudeDude give it a read.

For those that don't like AG, read this months Rodder Digest and the coments they make about the movie. It seems to be close to the way it was....

Where were you in 62? Since I am of the Graffiti generation it actually was not too far off the mark .We Cruised,we picked up chicks, we had our Drive Inns where the" cool rods" hung out and Midnight Drags out in the country to see who the top dog was,it happened!

It sure did happen and it happened big time even in the citiies. The era of the muscle cars was fantastic.
At that time (63-64-65) I lived in Anaheim Cal. and one of the places to be was Carl's on Harbor Blvd. It was so busy they had rent-a-cops directing traffic through the Drive In Parking lot. The Carl's parking lot/drive thru was a weekly car show to equal any car show today.

BTW, no hotrodder in those days would be caught dead with Appletons on their cars...those were for low riders.

Glad to see someone else has seen Hot Rod. What about the Ozzie movie with the 57 Chevy street racer where he ends up doing huge dohnuts.

Cant remember what it is called but way cool.

Hor Rod is that available on DVD does anyone know? I havn't seen it in years but really liked it. I also can't get enough Bullitt, Vanishing Point, Gone in 60 seconds(both of them),Bad Georgia Road(the star is a 70 road runner),Return to Macon County,Greased Lightning,Two Lane Blacktop and I started the thread about Hollywood Knights. The next thing I'm gonna say will probably make everyone mad but..... The Fast And THe Furious (Should be the Slow and the Curious) has some really really good street racing scenes no matter how much we hate the majority of the cars that are being raced! As far as car movies go its probably as good as any! In fact as far as car movies go the only one I feel is better made is American Graffitti. American Graffit is Stelar as far as car movies go and thats just the facts! If life could only be the way it was in 62 again!

    T-bird gang.

The blob. Has a 1940 Ford coupe racing backwards near the beginning.

Hot Rods to Hell. Has a couple hot rods in it too. Cool scene when they chase the family in the desert.

    The wild ride.

Hot Rod girl. Has some cool roadsters racing.

    The Choppers.
    The Lively set.

There are actually a ton of movies out that are "car related".
Not all of them are hot rod or traditional rod related. But, none the less, they are car related. Here's a short list of ones off the top of my head.
    Tucker
    Gumball ralley
    cannonball
    The cannonball run movies.
    eat my dust
The last chase. Lee Majors had a race car buried in his garage.
    Viva Las Vegas. with Elvis
    Spinout. With Elvis.
The car. Laughed my ass off when the car is doing donuts outside the cemetery.
Chitty Chitty bang Bang. Love that car.
Those daring young men in their jaunting jalaopies.
The great race. Love those old cars.
Village of the giants. I think this one had a t getting it's body tore off when it tries to wrap ropes around a giant and pull it down.
    High School Caeser.
    Ghost of dragstrip Hollow.
A bunch with Annette Funicello and Frankie Avalon have cars in them too.

There was an old beach movie where they go through a car show. I think they were chasing a go-kart or something like that.

  21. "Mischief". A flick that was about life in Nelsonville, Ohio in the late 50's. The "nerdy kid" in a bullit-nose Stude totally trashes a"cool kids" 55 Chevy convert after the 55 runs a 53 Chevy into a ditch in a game of chicken. Movie has a great soundtrack, too.

Not really hot rods but, what about Le Mans with Steve McQueen from sometime back in the 60's. I was the first movie with cinavision or some fancy name. When you watched the movie, you felt like you were in the driver's seat..taking the curves, etc. I remember people actually running out of the movie to puke from motion sickness. It'd be cool to watch on one of those large ass TV they have now.

To me Hollywood Knights looks like a cheap knock off of AG. They just changed the names of the drive ins and added more slapstick.

Shoot they even had a dj in a booth, someone leaving in the morning going away and a big drag race at the end.
