ive been trying to find more pictures of that car also... i think it sits a bit too low for a "right" 40's look but its pretty nice! maybe i can stretch my "custom" search even farther into the 30's! can anyone photoshop that ****er a couple inches higher?? Zach
That could be a HAMB first! The car looks real nice. I bet there will be a bunch of pics of it once everyone starts posting their show pics.
Good Question, I've spent all morning on the HAMB trying to find more pictures..... I love westguard style kustoms and this '38 just blew my mind. The sled has a lot of at***ude sitting there beside the Cole built '36. I need to know more and see more pictures. Happy Trails, Mick

Ryan, I met the wife of the owner, she was with Susan Foster. Cole did some work on that car, you might ask him about.
So then a philosophical question for you Ryan... We talked about you wanting to do a car like this... It's a beautiful car and I thought about you when I saw the pic... I honestly can't imagine you building it a whole lot differently... So does that bother you at all? Would you still build it? The overriding question is how do you build a car that someone else has built just about perfectly, and make it your own? (Hirohata, Matranga, Calori, etc...) Or do you just build something else and dig on the existing car from afar? It's easier to do with a car that was built a long time ago because you can say it 'inspired' you, but it's harder with a modern build...

Ryan, What about doing your coupe like that? I think it would look great! I've thought many times about redoing mine in the late 40's style. Airbag the back, and add skirts. Then if you wanted to go back to Hot Rod, just pull the skirts, and pump up the bags.
I got a shot or two of it. I still have to sort through the 650 photos I took and get them on my site. Morty said it's the same one that was in Hop Up back when it had a black top and sat a tad higher. Looks way mo' bettah now.
We talked to Cole about shooting that car... so if everything goes as planned we'll be shooting it real soon. I've been a fan of the car since I first saw it at Paso 2004... it had a different top and different wheels if I remember correctly. -Juan

NOPE, same car... That's the magic of Cole, able to turn anything into something cool(er). It's Kent Kozera's '38 (which was his dad's I think?). Cole brought that down with Kent's gold Flathead and the Metallicoupe. And, if I'm not mistaken again, I believe Sunday was the first time Kirk and his wife had seen the finished product. The car won First in its cl***, as did Hetfield's Buick (so no hurt egos).
My '38 is my favorite car... I'd never change it. As for doing a cabriolet... True, I wouldn't do it much differently than this one, but it would be different (prolly built a little more era specific) and it would be mine. I've never done cars as statements really, so I wouldn't really care too much what the perception was. It's all good... Man, I love that car though... They did a great job on it...
No ****? So the car is originally a mid west car... I'm pretty sure I saw the car in it's original form at Googuys in KC.
Don't know the exact history/origin of the car, but Kent brought that to Cole a while back for some updates. It's still got the "street rod'ish" leather interior, but Cole put a Lincoln dash in it, so it looks good inside too. The wheels/tires and top made all the difference in the world, though, didn't it?
Yeah... wheels and tires made all the difference in the world. Is it me or is the stance a little adjusted as well? Prolly air bags... I wish I had all that stainless trim... -------- My other two favs? I own em.
