According to this site, Gasolin was a map company that sold roadmaps untill the mid '60s.
    http://www.ianbyrne.free-online.co.uk/gasolin.htm

So the pics must have been earlyer than that.

The Licence plates on the Cars look like they are from Austria.

Look at the Semaphore flapping on that Peugeot...:D

A number 53 on a bug is pretty funny too ( that has to be photoshop...)

  2. VWs can be cool...the only foreign car I would own and not feel compelled to hang my head in shame. I always wanted a squareback when I was into bugs. I don't think they are anymore out of place than the fiberglass fake patina car on Ebay Boyd built for a dead celebrity.

  3. I've owned 25 VW's,most of them really nice. Show worthy. But this isn't the place for them. Having said that.....love to take that Notch off your hands! Had a '65 that went to a Museum in Japan. Miss it!

In the one picture it looks like the sq.back is gonna' stomp on a TV remote control.
    Ditch those RIMS dawg.
I do like the cars though. Not everyday you see a nice notchback.

  9. The therapist said I would probaly hallucinate some, if I looked at certain images for very long....:D

  10. so...if I told you that I own a chopped convertible with a carson top, some louvres, white tuck n roll threads, molded off trim and handles, one off dash, 37 ford taillights and a killer motor....all done up in red....what do you think it is????? I'd bet money you would be thinking a 30's-40's ford, merc, or chevy rag top custom. well......SURPRISE!!!!

Had I known earlier (high school) what I know now about VW's and value I would have kept all my stuff to fund projects today. Have you seen how outrageous some of those German tinker toys go for now? Fun Fun Fun cars even if they are Porsche-lite.

Love that Notch, Hot Rod Ron just sold one last summer. Notches will always be cool.

  14. I purposly kept these pic's out of my coverage of Bob's Big Boy cruise nite as I didn't want to start a shit storm, but I guess I can post it here............

  15. Here's mine. The Blue/Gray 67 has a 2110cc engine, with dual 44mm Webers. It runs strong. I'm the second owner. I've had it 20 years. I built and sold the Blue and white one about 12 years ago. Ia showed up on ebay last summer, it's in LA now. Dean

here's a few shots from my VW days. The convertable was mine. It was the first car I ever bought. I worked at a carwash all summer when I was 15 to save up for it. It was always a beater until I finally got motivated to finish it about 6 years ago, and sold it. The notch was my buddies that he just got to mess around for the summer. It was cool because for about 2 weeks we both had finished cars for once in our lives, even though we weren't even really into VW's anymore. We drove the sh*t outta those VW's for 2 weeks straight, to the beach, to go eat at Rae's diner, racing eachother around town (Santa Monica) with those little sewing machine motors. It was funny.

well the thread does say "vw"..easy to scroll past it if ya dont like em..

I use to live down the street from CB Performance (Claudes Buggies) and I know some guys that work there..Never was into em until i went to a VW drag event at Famosa...Blew my mind!..Ive seen an 11 second el-camino get wiped half a pole on a farm road in central Cali by a 64 street legal Dubya.. I have much respect for Vdubs...fun to race and easier than shit to work on..
I dont think this post is gonna send the HAMB into a Vaginal Vortex

Guess we can go back to talkin about them damned GoldChainers while we try to recreate what they were doing 50 years ago...

  18. Hey DirtyDag, I used to work for VW Trends and HotVWs, and knew Claude, Bob, Rick, Cub, MarieAnne, Baya, and all the other suspects @ CB. Sadly, Claude passed away a few years back, and Bob is now retired, and Rick has taken over the business. I went for a few rides in Bob's 550 Spyder replica, with the twin turbo motor, and I don't scare easy, but that car had me scared to death...
And dammit, if everyone else is gonna do it, I am too.... 57 VW sunroof, narrowed front beam, disc brakes, original Rader wheels, steel convertible decklid, and a fire breathing 2017 with 48 IDA Webers, capable of high 13's in street trim, street tires, through the muffler. (It was, until I took the compression out of it, and replaced the 3rd race gearbox in 4 months, drove it home from the track with 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, and drained 1st gear out the drain plug in the bottom of the gearbox... I still have that mainshaft to remind me why you don't launch a full-weight VW at 6,500 rpm with a stock mainshaft...)
And for you that say "its not traditional" or "its a foreign car" consider this- it's pre-'64, older than quite a few cars on here, it has an engine built in San Marcos, CA, connecting rods from Redondo Beach, wheels made in Downey, interior from Riverside, brakes from Long Beach, heads from Anaheim, shifter from Orange, transaxle from Riverside, etc etc and I dare say that a lot of you might be surprised.... by the time you get done with your wheel hop and sping wind-up, etc, if I did it right, by the time you actually start moving forward, I should be clutching for 3rd gear... ;)

The split looks like a '51 or '52, but the dual exhaust didn't happen until '56. The Porsche is pre-'57, but by the way they are dressed I'd guess the pics from the late '50's. I wonder what he had to do to be able to dirttrack that Vdub with a 25hp engine? He's got the ass end hanging out far enough he had to counter steer.

  21. Well I'm a dyed in the wool VW hater, BUT...............
I really don't know what that second VW is but its by far the best looking VW body stye I have ever seen (Not a lot of VW where Im from and I admit I never looked into them). I am SO sick of Bugs. Man at least these are a little different.
By the way, your skills are crazy! Talk about making strawberry jam from pig shit! Well done.

I don't have anything against VW's but the rims and the "dog peeing stance" has nothing to do with this site. Next time put an "O.T." in the title so that I can avoid this crap.

And maybe one day retards will learn not to click on thread titles that don't interest them instead of scratching their sandy old vaginas.

I like the pictures, despite the ensuing shitstorm.

My gramps drove the wagons exclusively from when they were first available til you couldn't find a decent used one anymore. Used to love riding shotgun with that crazy old bastard, jumping railroad tracks or barreling through fields to reach his prized gardens, tucked away on an acre here and there the tractor couldn't cultivate. The harder he pushed em, the louder he giggled like a demented Elmer Fudd.

Been a long time since I thought about those days. Thanks for taking me back.
