My car is not the safest car on the road, it's 50+ years old and all original steering and suspension. I know I don't have much room to talk.
But THIS car - the first time I saw it was @ the 05' round-up. We all kinda felt bad - it seemed like he had thrown a rod. Then on Saturday, there he was at the park. Everybody said he drove it there. How did he do that? Oh it just has all this going for it and it leaks like a sieve too. With all of that time he took to engineer the car, he didn't bother to dam the leaks.

Looks like about about 5 minutes of engineering and about 6 hours of drunken fabricating to me. I hope nobody gets killed when that thing comes apart!

Engineer??? What engineering? The guy that built this should be shot!

The problem is that there are certain rodders(?) that admire this sort of thing.

  4. This guy gives RAT RODS a bad name. ;-)

When I bought back my dad's old 32', we found this. Steering arm doesn't clear? How about notching the V860 tube axle. Oh yeah, don't forget to weld washers together for spacers.

It says "its finished".... almost seems that he sees it as an acomplishment.... or a victory cry.

I was told I had to have my coupe inspected, but after the 1st time I could put antique plates on it, and it would not have to be inspected as long as it had the antique plates. He must have a buddy that slipped him the paper work for the 1st inspection.

I think extremely raised 4x4's and extremely lowered ricers account for 90% of the bad shit I've seen. My feelings exactly on I&M, but they still don't have it around here, because it's a "hardship" on poor folks.

While not the worst thing on this thread, How many of you would feel good about the way this 56 F-1 Box is mounted on this Deuce frame?, Holes drilled with a "Gas Wrench"( you can see the flange of the steering box through the big hacked out hole on the frame),.. would you cruise or drag race this puppy ? What would you guys do to fix this ?

I've seen so many scary thing on hot rods and race cares I could right a book. Worst was a 49 F-1 the guy put a swing pedal in. It was too long so he cut it in the middle, drill ONE hole in each half and bolted it together with ONE hardware grade 3/8 bolt. Don't have a clue how he got that bolt tight enough. Same truck had r&p mounted to the axle, GM steering shaft cut down as a slip joint, would fall out if you jacked it up and unloaded the springs. Scariest part... I drove the truck 30 miles without knowing these thing.

O.k. so how do you know that vehicle is unsafe? Cause it leaks oil? There are a lot of cars out there that leak oil new and old. So, should all the cars that leak be taken off the road?

Now on you car, if you know it is not safe on the 50 year old suspension, why do you drive it?

The things I see that is unsafe on the road is people. Talking on phones, eating, drinking, messing with the stereo, not having common courtesy for the next driver and driving drunk.

The pedals on this Chevy were scary enough for me. Seen at VLV ´06

When i got my 34 Plymouth it had a worn 273 Dodge in it. I replaced it with a 283.
The welds on the pre- owner custom fabbed motor mounts were so bad I could brake the left hand mount off of the framerail with my hands... the passenger side motor mount fell off by its own when I lifted the engine out of the car... luckily the mounts were cut at an angle, so they were kinda wedged between the rails by gravity...

The steering linkage was made of 1/2" round thinwall tubing and only tack welded with very poor penetration.

Apparently sarcasm doesn't translate well onto the internet.

Alfster: "Engineer??? What engineering? The guy that built this should be shot!"

Kustomgasser:"O.k. so how do you know that vehicle is unsafe? Cause it leaks oil? There are a lot of cars out there that leak oil new and old. So, should all the cars that leak be taken off the road?

All that engineering i.e. lack thereof. That leak was the very least of his
    problems.

I said mine wasn't the safest car, but I didn't say it wasn't safe.
It's 50+ years old there could be something that I have not seen
or found that is bad or going bad. I don't think so but you never know. With that in mind, I never drive her further than I could stand to walk if the merde hits the ventillateur...

I've seen road graders with less camber than this ride's!

  22. Hey I think I let that guy use my jack to change his springs. Someone said he had some sort of hydraulic setup so he could actually stand it up and drive it.

I don't have any pics but a guy at a local car lot wanted to trade me a bucket t for and old late model pickup once. He said I should take it for a drive. I told him no thanks. It had frame components made from water pipe etc.

found this ratrod on ebay. I was under the impression that you usually bolted your torsion bars to your axle, and it looks like he found that draglink in the trash can.

"slipper type" torsion arms and leafs are common on race cars.

In Mobile AL, Steering column and box brackets in a 33 Plymouth sedan made of southern pine with carriage bolts and plumbing strap with wood screws.
Also in Mobile Al, Brake hard line on rear of 42 Plymouth sedan cut and curled up, then struck with hammer to seal it when wheel cylinder started leaking.
Doofus working on 32 Roadster in Houston TX using fuel hose with clamps on the rear brake lines rather than brake hose. Amazingly, it didn't blow off, just puffed up enough so he had no brakes. We went over to see what was wrong and almost fell on the floor laughing so hard.
Houston TX, T bucket owner asking what size conduit we made our radius rods and tie rods out of, he was having problems with his setups bending and breaking, and he did have internal brace bars and did a real nice job of brazing. YEOW!

Back in the '60s I bought a '34 Ford coupe that had been regularly raced at a local 1/8th mile strip. The floor was thin (at the most 1/16") aluminum sheet. A steel bomber seat was bolted to the floor with a couple 1/4" bolts. Holes were punched through the seat and a surplus aircraft seatbelt was clipped through the holes. The driver was no way secured to the chassis. It had a black iron pipe rollbar pidgeonshitted to the side of the frame rails - the top bar was "welded" on with no fishmouthing. The pipes all had the threaded ends still showing. When I got it home I broke the roll bar out with my bare hands.

Afriend just bought this sedan off Ebay by a guy who has supposedly built and sold a bunch of them on there....Notice how the batwing is attached to the axle...A tack weld on the top and bottom .I guess he's trying to thin the population
