To keep it short I just moved to upstate New York right outside of Utica in Marcy from Minnesota and I'm wondering what Hamber's are up here? Cause I kno im MN there were a fair amount. And I kno this is a long shot but what the hell: Basically when I moved I lost all my automotive contacts etc that I had in MN so is anyone around the Utica area (within 30ish miles) looking for an extra hand around the shop or help with anything automotive from a 16 year old, I've done a little body work and lots of engine/tranny swaps etc. I could care less if I get paid I just want something to do and to learn a little while I'm doing it. So far the only local shop I've seein is Tucci Engineering, it looks like they got some cool shit in there.. -Stephen
Pyro, Central NY is a huge car club area. Make sure you go to the Syracuse Nationals 20-21-22 July 07 at the State Fairgrounds, (6500 cars). If you get to the Nationals stop by the Cargill Building, we will have a small room where there is food and cold water. We have 53 Car Clubs that belong to the CNY Car CLub Organization. There are a couple of clubs in Utica area, don't remember their names. I'm the rep for the Local ATHS Truck Club and a member of the Mustang Club, they are party Guys. A representative from each club meets on the Second Tuesday of every month at Barbagallo's Restaurant in Syracuse: 7.00pm. No matter what type of car you have we can line you up with a club. Lots of contacts around, people that build stuff and cars tucked away in garages and shops. Tucci builds the give away car for the Nationals each year. We have lots of cruses and car shows, something every night of the week. The first show of the year will be 23-24-25 March called the Bob Hoffman Show at the Syracuse Fairgrounds; the best of the CNY cars will be there. Because of the iffy weather in March most cars come in closed trailers. Last year we drove them in, warm and the roads were clear of snow and salt. You'll find there is lots to do up here once the weather gets better.
I'm sure some of the members of this vintage racing club are from around there. Racers always need help, so if you can get in touch with them you'll find some shops and lots of local car people: http://www.midstatevintagestockcars.com/ http://www.uticaromespeedway.com/
There's probably 10-12 HAMBrs in the Rochester area - maybe more. If you get over this way, give us a 'head's up' and we'll be glad to show you around. Also look for posts on here about the drag races at South Butler. Not too far from you.
I,m in Rochester, along with several others. If you're in the area send me a PM and I'll be glad to give you a guided tour of some of the many car nuts we have here. Our club, which is only one of the many, has over 180 members at present.
Actually, i think he's from around the Syracuse area. I was supposed to meet him a while back and i think that's where he said he's located.. Anyhoo....i'm in Rochester like rodknocker said... Like a few other fella's mentioned, there's quite a few HAMBers up here..
To the big city New Yawkahs', I'm way upstate in the Hudson Valley. To most of the rest of the state I'm "down by The City" (capital letters for NYC) Much of the country thinks if you live anywhere in NY you must be in a Penthouse near Central Park. When travelling I like to show people pictures of my tractor, orchard and mountain views so they get the real "picture" of NY. Upstate here - down by The City - in the Hudson Valley, there is a lot of cruise activity every weekend and some exceptional car shows and swaps. My favorites is the "Spring Dustoff" at Rhinebeck , NY . Three days of parts swap, rods, mods and antiques. May 4-6th this year. The Mills Mansion "Gathering of Old Cars" on the banks of the Hudson River in Staatsburg NY is a great time and last year the first show at the Morse Estate (of Morse Code fame...) in Poughkeepsie drew amazing amount of cars . The Lake George meet in the fall is a regional favorite. Here's a link to a list of NY car shows and swaps: http://holtononline.com/topsdown/carshows/shows.html Powerband Up to my axles in squashed apples in NY's Mid-Hudson Valley.
I tell people I live in Western NY about 6.5-7 hours from NYC. Y ou are absolutly right most people think all of NY is NYC. We have a fairly large State.
I'm in Rochester too.Hey Tony,I'll be posting more pictures of the 57 Fairlane progress soon.I'm still in Chicago checking out Graffitti32's 5 window.
I'm in the Hudson Valley too, near Middletown. I agree, Rhinebeck is great...I've been attending since I was a kid, almost 30 years. Don't you love when you drive to Florida and everybody south of the Mason-Dixon line suspects that you are some kind of thug or criminal because of your New York license plates? I've always lived within 60 miles of the city and have only visited a total of about five times...one of which was to attend the Rumbler's "hot rod thrills and custom kills" show.
Cool, I had no idea there were so many shows and suff around here I figured I was out in the boonies and that was the end of it. Seems like most of you guys are from Rochester tho, isnt that like 1.5 hours away from Utica?? We need some more local (to me) Hamber's. lol
I'm about 1 hour from you on rte. 205 and Sidney is 1/2 hour from here.Welcome to the area. There are alot of cruise in's and a handful of shows in the area all summer
It's dead around here in the winter. In the spring; things start happening. Tucci's starts the first monday in May. Other cruz-ins and shows start in June. I'll keep in touch to let you know.
That'd be great! Thanks, finially theres some Hamber's around here. In the spring I'll have a 36'x50' pole barn finished and I might be doing some storages come winter if any hambers need it.
