I did a search and found that Denise was working on a HAMB type fellow pages and she was collecting names but I didn't see if it ever came to fruition. Is there a collection of names of HAMBr's who might be available to ***ist fellow HAMBr's when on the road in time of need? When I used to belong to NSRA, I had my name in their book for that same reason. I'm not necessarily Mr. Fixit, but sometimes its just nice to have contact with local rodder's you can trust to recommend a shop if you were to....say beak down in your late model. I will be traveling again this summer in my 40 and since I no longer have a NSRA fellow pages, I thought it might be nice to have a HAMB fellow pages if it were available. Also I would be glad to add my name to it as well.

I dont think its going to happen.

Before every body jumps on me. Im just saying she might not have the time or the resorces to do it again. I know she has done it in the past. Now she has been volainteered to do it and we dont know if she still wants to or can do it. I sent my info to her last spring and havent heard anything back. Every few months a post like this comes up, so I thought I would throw this out there.

We need to find out if she has the time to do it and if she still can do it or wants to.

Im not trying to put her down she does more the HAMB than I will ever be abile to do.

I will help if I can but as you see my spelling ****s and Im a one letter one finger at a time typer.

It seems to me that the only practical way this could be done is via this website, not asking someone to do it manually.

Couldnt we just use existing options in our profile? We already have the ability to include our street addresses, so couldnt we just say that if we have added our address and checked the (for example) 'receive email from other members' or 'enable private messaging' (and not 'receive pms only from buddies') then we've given permission to be on 'the list'?

Then it's not too difficult to have a place on the site that will query the database and allow download of a participaing members list. hell, I'd write the query and help get it done.

What would really be slick would being able to query by location or route. For location, you could enter a zip & a radius (100 miles, 500 miles, etc) - for route, you could enter two points & a distance & it would give you every person w/in 100 miles of your route.

Pie in the sky, I know, but if we're wishing...

I have nothing to do with running this forum you understand, so ignore everything I say ;)

however, the zip code/radius thing is easy, I've done it a few times if ryan's interested in any of this. you really are dreaming with the route though. :D

How do you do it by states.

What if all helpers did a couple of states.

I can't say that I would be able to pull off a zip code search thing... BUT, we already do have the capability to store physical addresses... The only thing there is that this is private info and folks would have to opt in to have their info available to the public... Not sure we could go there or not...

    Let me do some research.

Isn't there a HAMBer map thing? On another site? I would swear I signed up for it. Could that be used, for route planning?

Well, plenty of websites do have "find hotels along your route" or "find Chevron stations" etc. So not sure if they do multiple point-to-point + radius searches or how they do that.

I don't have anything to do other than dream up ways to occupy Ryan's time! :D :D

Placing info on a website for all to access is pretty scary. The way the fellow pages work is, you submitt your info and you get the excel fellow pages back via email.

I spot checked the info, such as if I didn't recogize the screen name I pulled up the persons profile and if they were brand spanking new, no posts, no fellow pages/entry. I also called foks numbers to verify they were legit, that we're kinda on the boarder of new/minimal participation. In other words, I tried to protect folks info and not just hand it out to every Tom, **** and Hairy. 99% of the info so far is from HAMB folks that participate.

At first there were alot of folks hesitant to give info, some just wanted their City and State listed and I completely understand. Us girls have to be especially careful.

With all this being said, the Excel spreadsheet is very sortable. It's listed by State and this is the best way for folks to print it. Print mulitpal copies and put one in each car. including daily drivers. Send a copy to work so you have it on your desk top at work, you never know when your sitting at work and you read a distress call for help on the road on the HAMB. You pull up your HAMB helper pages and call the broken down HAMB with some phone numbers of some folks that are close to him. I've used Mapquest to help with locations.

It's happened many times where a HAMBer has broken down on the road and DIDN't have his fellow pages with him, right SteveieG.;) Over 300 HAMB folks already have the first version, ya just have to print it and carry it. They, and the additional 400 or so, will get version 2 as soon as I'm done. I've gotten a few PM with offers of help. I'm going to take these folks up on the offers and get this thing done so everyone that had sent in their info can have the fellow pages in time for this upcoming cruzn season.

Info thats put on a website, printable for everyone is not where I want my contact info. Others may feel differently and if someone wants to take on that project, by all means go for it. If it can be figured out how to protect that info from not just anyone seeing/printing it, then I'm all for it.
