So I am tossin around this idea for my poncho. I have the front portion of a pair of 55 caddy fenders..... Headlight area. I am at the point of asking myself, do I graft them on or not? If I do I wll ditch the body line that is in them. Originally i was just gona french the originals by welding on the trim ring and installing every thing from the back. That was till i saw these. Any opinions? I can handle the work so that's not the problem. Im just not 100% on the look. Sorry I didnt have any extra hands to hold the chunk up to the car.

And if there is any way to photo shop it on there that would be extra cool....... I might be able to make up my own mind then! HAAHAA

I'd do it. Poncho's are rather STUB nosed and could use a bit of extra BODY flare.

kinda what I was thinkin. I only came up with the Idea after seeing one with 55 olds head lights and then I came across these for next to nothin. But the frenched version would be cool too....... ahhhhhh im just stuck.

Heck yea.. and leave that cool line... that would look cool. If you take a side pic with the caddy fender in the front of the car, and email it to me I'll photo shop it, or a front or 3/4 view but both the car and the caddy headlight will have to be at the same angle for it to work. Let me know!!

Me thinks it would be way cool....in addition I would graft teh donor buckets in, then do the french Idea and mount the headlight from the back, AND put the fender line in.....but thats just me...I think it would be a walk away from the norm....and I'm a fan of that...

Grafting Olds parts on Pontiac's is a customizing staple for Poncho's. The Caddy is nice and different but I think I'd leave the body line and STOP frenching **** in. You want people to know its different and not the same old Oldsmobile trick.

Leaving the bucket will give a person a reason to question it's make. Also it'll bring some bright work in after you start eliminating the original.

I like how you guys think. The only exception is the body line for 2 reasons. 1, the poncho doesnt have any line to work with. 2, yes the caddy had the line but so did a canadian 53/4 poncho which was nothin but a chev with pontiac trim. I dont want the average joe to start thinkin its a chev with poncho parts on it...... happens enough the way it is!

I'd taper that body line into a point. Just to finish off that curve that comes down from the eyebrow on the fender.

BUT THATS MY VAIN ****ING OPINION. =]

I say do it. They look a lot mor stylish then the stockers.

  13. I think if you start graftin' Caddy parts on to your Poncho, you won't stop there and at some point we won't really know what the heck it originally started as...which IMO, can be very cool!

    I like the idea.

Yeah, like brandy said taper the body ine to a point right at the graft will finish the look of the eye brow. This project will add a lot to the looks of your car plus it's real old time customizing.

Looks like it would work. Look for a Caddy front bumper and you will really mess with their minds.

Put the Caddy fender sections on. Leave the body line...let it go back about 8 in. and then fade away. Shorten the fender side trim, to just about the rear of the fender opening, so you can appreciate the new body line. It won't look like a Chevy, cause they go all the way back.

Its only worth it if you make sure the hood of the car is fully shaved.Too many people are buildind customs that are not nosed which is retarded especially in the case of a custom Pontiac. For those that dont know, nosing sand decking are the first and most important mods .

In the interest of continuity, if you modifiy the front, you have to modify the rear also. IMO, that's an important part of getting it right.

On a similar note, my dad is gonna graft the whole Cadillac fender top (w/body line) onto his 48 Studebaker Champion.

It suffers from being stub nosed, as is.

Use 1/4 inch cold rolled round rod to extend the body line...simple weld it on and fill...I'd make it flow all the way into the door, and taper it off about half way into the door...that would make it more interesting...

I happen to have a complete '55 Caddy grille if you need it...

I would go for it. I have a '51 pontiac 4-door and if i had those extra pieces laying around I would start welding those ****ers on. Good luck!

    Here's my shot at Photoshop.

I'm on the fence as far what direction to take.
The Caddy lights look pretty cool, but I also love the round, clean super deep cannon like frenched headlights sometimes used on these cars.

    good luck

i wouldn't do it because i think they are too flat on top for the pontiac fenders...i understand that you have them and all but what about 55 chevy or 55 olds? i think they would look better...just my opinion, but what do i know?

I would totally weld those on and extend the bodyline down the fender to a point and fade it out.

I'd use em, and either extend the body line almost to the door (or even a little into the door), OR much easier, shorten it and end it right about where that vertical rust mark is. my 2 cents
