    First move.
All flagmen and tracks were a bit different.
    Basic like this tho.
Points to you to see you nod ready.
    Points to other driver.
Puts tip of flag on ground, yellow behind his back and listens to the cars setting up.
Go as flag tip comes up off the ground and the guy jumps.

A good one puts on a show for the crowd as the cars head on down the track then moves smoothly into directing the next 2 cars into position and ready to run soon as the track clears.

    DANGER!!! Will rObinson, DANGER, DANGER
Now I can see why the guy on PINKS has no hair. It takes more BALLS to stand in front of one of these cars, than it does to drive 'em............

To answer when you took off, it was the exact moment that the green flag left the ground. Don Garlits used to try to leave a split before the flag went up and then shot me the finger if I called him back. Best reaction times went to Ivo and Garlits brother Ed.
Most of these shots of flaggers high in the air must have been taken early in the morning, because there is no way you could jump like that all day long. Oh, how I loved the smell of nitro in the morning.

    I wanna see some flaggirls:)

  23. When I was flagging I heard the racers used to watch my arm muscles tense up just before I lifted the flag, so I had to start wearing a long sleeved shirt.
Sort of like leaving just as the last yellow was going out.

I'm sorta partial to this one. That's Dave Hightower flaggin' at Mo-Kan, 1962. As I understand, Dave is a pin stripper of some note and lives around Kansas City.

We inducted Dave into our Mo-Kan Hall Of Fame this year.

This image was on the Mo-Kan shirt we sold at the Hamb drags last year.

  26. I looked for Cha Cha DiGregorio from Grease when she started the race, but amazingly, I couldn't find one.
