  2. No way... Lucky is right. Does look like a few unlucky tubes there though. Is the steering out the wrong side?

  3. Here's another angle. I'm hoping he will get on here and tell us the whole story. Note that the steering comes out on the right side. That's unusual.

Son of a BITCH! How lucky can a man be? All it needs is a Nailhead with a Potvin crank driven blower.........

  5. I'm no expert but I think the early versions were mild steel and had double roll bar hoops.

  6. Later versions were made from chrome moly tubing and had a single hoop.

The base chassis had the single hoop and the double hoop was added when Dean Moon started to sell them through his shop. His Moonrail was the first one to have a double roll hoop and Dragmaster incorporated the idea for a small additional fee. I believe Moon also offered a second one as an add on kit for chassis with the single hoop.
    Cheers,
    Doc.

    Hey Kev,

Do you know the wheel base differance from the early to the later model and the years the change occured? I like these threads because hopefully someone will pop up with a clean set of prints. I'd like to find a set of NHRA approved plans for either an earlier or later version to avoid the track head ache's. Mark Williams sells NHRA approved digger plans but not for the Dragmaster.

Standard wheelbase was 112" but could be ordered any length and in mild steel or moly. They also sold complete plans in the 60's for $15.00 - there's got to be some of them around. Sure wish I'd a bought a set but I was making a buck an hour part time then - $15 was a fortune. Somewhere I have (if they didn't disintegrate by now) a couple of their mid 60's catalog/ordersheets - I'll try to search them out this week.

A friend of mine bought a new DragMaster dragster in the early 60s. It was 98" car with double roll bar hoop. Then his friends talked him into cutting the extra hoop off. And he did and regrets it today. He said "glad it always stayed on all fours". Then in 65 was sent back to Cali. to be lenghtened to about 135". The name of his car was Zorba The Greek. I have his old parts as follows, crank hub, blower pulley, blower intake, CAE direct drive, moon tank and Thompson timing cover. The name of my car is Zorbas Ghost, since i have abunch of old parts from his old car. My car is not the Dragmaster style though. I think of it as the replacement or newer up dated car for his DragMaster.

That pickup bed was on its way to crushing this frame, it was buried with hoods and fenders and all kinds of shit. The damaged tube was from a heavy piece of metal on it. Thanks for the thread Kev.

  23. I knew it would be a one paragraph response. Tell us a little more about it. How did you find out about it?. Do you have it home now? What are your plans for it? Build for show or to race? What engine will you use? what wheels? what parts do you have? what parts do you need? Inquiring minds want to know.

Wow the tail section looks cool. I think that is one of the first Dragmasters I've seen with rear sheet metal. I like it.

The car was an urban legend and found at Turners Auto Wrecking where it has been buried for 30 years, I have been after it for a few years and finally made the deal and brought it home and to top it all I have the original all chrome front end that was on the car, he had it stashed at his ranch. It did have a Thompson 3rd member and Palamedes wheels but they are gone. Jim found the car in San Luis Obispo about 30 years ago in a gas station with no engine. I am not a racer so probably build it for show. The strangest thing on the car is the right steer Lavine box which matches perfectly to the front end, it also has the 19" wheels and Avon tires. I need an Olds Thompson 3rd member ans some small window early 15x8 5on5 Halibrands because I know the Palamedes is an unobtainium. The engine I do not know, I have plenty of small blocks but until I research some history it will be without one for a while. Thank you for the thread Kev and all the pictures you guys. Skip

I'm thinking that inline six in your front garage would look pretty cool sitting between those rails.
