  5. I am 31, been building cars since i was 14, worked as an apprentice for 4 years as a bodyman. i thought i knew shit, then my mentor in the body shop who was 60 has been pounding sheetmetal since before i was born, since before the time when you could order a new fender.
i learned an amazing amount of skill that you can only learn with working with someone like this. i respect anyone who has been at it long enough to tell me i am doing it wrong, or the hardway. I came to the HAMB to continue to learn, although i dont work in a bodyshop anymore (bad knees) i still build cars for friends and look forward to the tech section and suggestions of the guys here, in a way everyone here no matter the age is my mentor as you have to keep learning, if you dont it will show in your build. my .02$.

I would add a poll to that thread. I am curious what is the dominating age range. You can split it up something like this.

    16 or younger -24
    25-39
    39-55
    56- older

    just a thought

I'm 56, and I've been told I don't look it, gained 5 pounds since 1968, see no point in acting my age.

If you go to the other thread, you'll see the distribution is outrageously even.

There is an old saying, your only as old as you feel, I've been doing this kind of shit in one form or another for over thrity years, age groups don't mean a thing, unless your waiting to die, me I'm going kicking and screaming with my car. The only part of me that feels fifty one is my knees and I can have them replaced, to me it's the love of keeping busy, doing something, anything that you care deeply about. The H.A.M.B. has a very diverse age range, it's the best thing going, THANKS Ryan.
One of these nights (Tuesday) I'm going to stumble down the street to catch up with you village idiots

    I'm 26, born in 1980

You guys that keep saying "but I act like I'm 18", I'm sorry, but I keep getting this mental picture of an old fat guy with a grey beard all goth'd out in black makeup and leather buckle pants, smoking a cigarette next to a four door Camry with a big aluminum wing and stickers all over it. If I could post the picture in my head, it'd be the funniest thing ever.

  19. Interesting observations. As for the advanced age of some of us, I think it's caused by white hair....

I'll be 64 next week and have been into cars since about 14. Although my body tends to betray me some I'm in pretty good shape and my passion for old cars, hot rods and building them has definitely kept me enthused. I'm building the ground up '32 roadster that I always dreamed of, am just finishing a track roadster and am still driving the wheels off my '40 Chevy convert. I think most of my pals are 62 - 70 and we are still real active and still building. It's wonderful.

You know, regardless of age, everybody "sounds" like they're maybe 25 when you read their posts, unless they're BSing about what they did back in the day. Just shows that hot rodding is the great leveler - young old, rich, poor -- we're all just guys and girls in t-shirts and jeans diggin' on the machinery. Ain't it just cool.

  24. The body is 66.....but the libido is 19 ! :)
