It was a pretty good show. 89 pictures at the link http://www.angelfire.com/retro/ericskars/ftworthcarshow07/
I've never been. How does it compare to the Autorama? Do you see most of the same cars as was in Dallas or a lot of different ones?
other than the grenade, the snot rocket, and that '34 5-window i think it was all different cars. It's definately worth the extra hours drive to go to the Fort Worth show over the Autorama. They do a much better job of keeping the really crappy cars out of the show. I don't think I saw a single honda, jeep, or tow truck, and there was only 1 drag boat.
Not a bad show at all, ofcourse one can always question in case of couple cars that were they in the right place, but people prefer different styles and I can tolerate even the questionable. Seeing Green Grenade and Hanson Rod for example saved my trip.
Thank you for sharing the cool snaps of this show. Another trip and never left the farm. Thank God for the digital technology available to us. And especially "THANKS" to cool guys like yourself who take time to share with the Sisters/Brothers of our beloved forum. The shot of the H.A.M.B. tag on the firewall was way cool. The black 50 Merc sent chills up the spine.-Sololobo
Yeah it usually is a good show. More like a big small town show and more personable then the Autorama. I didn't get a chance to go this year.
did you take ALL those pictures with your cell ohone,,, or did you have a few too many and couldn't focus,,, xoxoxox miss hootch
I didn't get to go this year, but I like this one a lot better than the Dallas Autorama. If you've ever been to the autorama on setup night, the Fort Worth Rod & Custom show is more like that. It's more about cars, and a larger per capita of the participants and attendees are real car people. Not much "TV/Movie Personalities" or wrestlers signing autographs.
Your right Slide, I think the only "personality" I saw was the girl that won on "Pinks". Oh yea and the "Elvis" pictured earlier was just a guy that decided to put on his jump suit and come to the car show. The show was fun and the Chups came away with three awards so I guess we are officially Throphy whores now! I got two words for ya....ROUND UP!
Sucks I had to work on projects all weekend, and a B-Day party for my son and then honey do's. Gald you got a award Ed. Wahts this Roundup talk, are you gonna bring a car now?
That black 32 Chasis is on the money. Thanks for taking so many detail shots. I've spent the last 10 minutes looking at them!
What day were you there? I was in ft. worth on sat. looking for a boat.. after we found it we just turned around and headed home.. too bad I didn't know you were there we would have stayed.
Hell yeah, that was a fun show. I think you got a pic of everything that I thought was noteworthy. Even that poor trippy Charger, hehe.
If you are talking about Eric he worked it Friday and Sunday...he was getting the full gospel treatment Sunday morning Elrod, I agree. That chasis was killer. I don't think I have ever seen the infamous "columbia butts" displayed where you could see it all like that. It belonged to Don Smith Don Smith's cars are killer. The cabro he bought from Europe is just too kool. He had the red 32 sedan that was in the show last year and that was out at the last Round Up with the flatty and slicks.
Hootch - shaddup. I got in early sunday morning and took all of my pictures. I have a 6 year old digital camera, and it was an indoor show with way to many flourescent lights. so yeah. shaddup. George - yeah, I was there friday and saturday morning. what in hell would you do with a boat? Congrats to the Chup's! Awards well deserved. Old Elvis came over to the corner of our booth and said "hey, you mind if I change back here?" he jumps behind the curtain and a few minutes later he's in the jumpsuit. It was kinda weird. That '32 chassis is amazing. Incredible attention to detail on it. They re-riveted every spot on the new modified x member. They made their own nuts on the firewall to replicate factory '32 nuts. The hand brake is a Lokar brake handle, but they modified the original '32 mechanical brake linkage to work the cables, and spliced latemodel pieces into the '39 lincoln rear backing plates so it would work. It has the 348/409 waterpump conversion, but made new plates for the front of the block so it would mount like factory. The rear lower shock mounts are F1 front mounts that have been twisted around. The frame, firewall, grill shell, etc. are all original parts. Very very very little reproduction stuff on it. Sorry I couldn't get better pictures....black (actually very dark blue) chassis on black carpet with poor lighting made it worse. The car will be a sedan delivery. Possibly to debut at the Roundup.
Elrod, thanks for asking. I really dig your state, people are so friendly and all. This was my second time in DFW, and definately not the last one. I never made it to Decatur, got stucked in O'hara airport in Chigaco because of the storm and that pushed our arrival to DFW to Sunday afternoon instead of planned Saturday. Airline companies are amazing, we didn't have a single flight according to our reservations, everything was rerouted, the whole journey started an day earlier than planned due to last minute plane failure, via London-Chigaco-StLouis instead of New York and so on. What a nightmare it was, 76 hours of traveling straight on... Weather was great, the show was even better. Food was just great regardless what I ordered, beer was cold, Stockyard was neat, Grapevine old city center was cool and so on. I should move there permanently...
