Thats a bad angle to a really nice car. It's a beatnick car that won an award (best custom I think) at the grand national in pomona last year

This is NOT a Kustom in my book. It's an ugly GTO concept that Barris must've built for Pontiac or somebody...

Actually, customs are subjective. One person's favorite is another's monstrocity. That Lincoln Mark clipped '49-'51 was reposted on a friend's forum. I've argued ever since that the car could've looked "right" if better built without the scoops and the Connie bubble done away with or better designed. But those are my thoughts, no one else's.

I like Frank Maratta's "Mystery", even in this incantation. The man had talent and a bit of the whimisical. But I love East Coast rods...channeled but full fendered, and customs from back in the day.

You're right, that IS a bad angle for that car..

Here's a better camera angle for you: 180 degrees.

Can I hear a "hell yeah"!?
    Bravo!
This would the absolute 1st thing my father taught us besides not to EVER touch anyones car....Keep your negative comments to yourself he'd always say prior to going to a show when we were kids.

Customs just used to be more "RADICAL" back then.

I can't believe that of all the cars that are on here that you are protecting that one. I have seen the car. Many have seen the car. If he didn't care what people thought about it he coul dhave bought a Yugo and just drove that....Same effect.

But he didnt want a yugo, he wanted to build that. Its his car, let him do what he wants, as long as he's happy. I woldnt build a car like that, but again, its what he likes, and he doesnt go around talking shit on othe peoples cars. He isnt that kind of guy.

    Junk. Period.

Don't get so bunched in the panties man...this isnt a "cool individual people thread". Not judging your homeboy...but if anything is at home in an ugly car thread, its sure that shitpile. That thing is an abortion that (from what I saw) requires no skill to do. People dont look at it and say "wow"....not even for the workmanship like many cars on here. Its poor ideas hacked together with crappy quality.

I had a Yugo for about 3 months one time (someone gave it to me). I thought it was pretty neat in a weird, what the hell is this sorta way. It had some entertainment value to it.

I guess that shows that everyone has different tastes. What I will say about the "ugly" customs in this thread is that some of them while being poorly proportioned and badly painted would make me stop and look whereas I would probably not pay any attention to someone's well done 57 Chevy. Just not interesting enough to me. Like the black car with it's hat on backwards. In the video that was posted the guy said it was a cartoon theme so he was trying to do something radical. If no one every tried new stuff car shows would be pretty dull.

The "waves" on the blue bubble top car are copied from the Franay Bentley. Looks pretty good on the original so someone decided to try to use it.

Here's a 1955 Lincoln Indianapolis concept car that won "Best in Class" at Pebble Beach a couple of years ago. To me, it can hang with the worst of em.

  20. OT, but I couldn't resist. Who doesn't like a PVC rollbar? Look for a coming tech article: How to make your Civic into a pickup. I wanted to follow the car to watch the body flex as it goes over speed bumps.

Doesn't a PVC rollbar cost as much as a steel rollbar, and weigh about the same? WTF.

Still, the pvc has got to be the strongest part of that car, and when the car dies, he can plumb his toilet with it!

I was just looking through some of my old pictures and I found these so I had to post them.

This car is built on an extended '70 Caddy Fleetwood chassis. It used an MG midget body, Model A front fenders, '35 Ford rear fenders, and a shitload of cardboard and wall plaster. I bought it for the 500 engine and some other assorted parts. What was left of the MG ended up becoming the "Train Wreck" if you remember that.

This was being built to be a buck to make fiberglass bodies, but the car was never fully finished. I defy anyone to beat these pics.

This is new, but it does qualify as a custom of sorts. The only cool thing is that it has a wheelchair accessible ramp. Still pretty ugly!

O.K. First off, I’m not the kind of guy that wants to talk bad about someone’s car.
People Like what they like and some people put a lot of work and time in to there cars.
So who am I to talk crap.
BUT and I do mean BUT!!!!
Last year when my band was touring the U.S. we stopped at a rest stop somewhere That I don’t remember .I saw a wagon with 63 Cadillac fins, a herby vacuum, Crazy Tile work, big truck horns, real turquoise on it and much more. All I can say is WHAT WHERE THEY THINKING! But it was 4am and I had to take some picks of it! The people where asleep inside but I didn’t care. I was in amazement! So here it is.

That is piss funny and oh - so - true. What an UGLY SOB!!!

  26. This is not technically a "custom" so it doesn't count here. It's an "Art Car", a different species. Art car folks are attuned to a different muse and worship at a different alter.

  27. And it's was powered by a Ford V8...
