Bought a 28 pickup, Buick that is.

    I watched this on ebay for a week fighting better judgement to bid. But my judgement was wrong, and the little Buick turned out to be more than I had expected.

    I have not been able to find out ANYTHING about Buick trucks before 33 except:

    Dealers converted Fisher bodied Buicks for Yellow Truck and Coach Mfg, but this looks different than any I've found pictures of.

    Buick built one experimental truck (panel) in 28 that never made it past prototype. Bit it did not use a cowl as did the he**** and ambulance bodies. It was turned over to Buicks mail dept after it's use in the design dept.

    The truck was last ***led in CA. The Super 6 supposedly runs. I have not had time yet to grab a battery and give it a shot.

    The cab corners are kinda munched, but the cab is in fantastic shape otherwise. NO rust anywhere. It was supposedly a convertable, but I cannot find any signs of a convertable top being mounted. The top on it is crudely made of galvanized.

    But it's almost all there, and it's something else.

    That thing is so cool!
    You'll be the only guy on the block with a truck like that, I guarantee it.

    Plans definately include keeping the fenders. Since I will have to build a new top, I am gonna build a carson top to roll with while I build a removable conventional top. Maybe look for another set of doors to whack the windows off of and roadster around when I feel like it.

    I'm thinking 322 Nailhead, quickchange, and artillery wheels. Maybe spokes. Copperish brownish color, stained bed and running boards. Maybe keeping the gold color of the grille shell and louvers. At least that's what I have in mind at this second.

    I sure would like ya'lls input, and photoshops though. You guys are the best resource there is.

    If anyone knows ANYTHING more about this thing let me know.

    A few more things about it. Electric start, oil filter, internal and external drums on the rear, parallel leafs, electric fuel pump (so it won't stall going backwards uphill, as per the manual)..... ahhh there was some more **** I forgot.

    I've got a 1926 Buick and my headlights don't look anything like those. Mine are shaped like sauce pans!Mine is a coupe and the windshield posts seperate at the cowl. the doors are also made in two pieces at the body line.That is Super Cool!

    There was a thread a while back about cars that shouldn't be rodded. In my opinion that is too rare of a piece to cut up and should be restored, or at least the modifications should be reversible.

    Cool to hear your not going to make a "ratrod" modifed out of it. I think leaving the fenders on it is an awsome idea! That thing would make a killer looking restorod roadster pickup. Look at some late 60's Rod & Custom magazines for inspiration...Big rake, 5spokes, all the trim left on it...
    It really looks factory, not like a homebuilt truck made from a car.

    I've been thinking alot about this. I was looking for a project to "rod", but found this. I don't plan on cutting it up, I like the proportions the way they are. I plan on putting the frame and driveline away for now. Everything as of now I plan to keep reversible. Body and interior wise, I want it to look like it could have came that way. I love the dash and wheel.

    How it really was built I do not know (concerning the bed and roof), because I never seen one like it. But that cab and bed behind a nailhead is the way it's going down for now.

    Love that buick turbo 6, but not for this thing.

    All the good Buick stuff like drums, and early nail all the way though.

    I've always wanted to build a 50-53 Buick kustom with nothing but buick parts. This'll work though.

    I don't think this was a factory model. Back then, shops commonly converted big cars to truck duty. A big Buick made a better truck than a Model T.
     
  21. In the early days of Buick ,trucks were pretty common(So were racecars).
    Once they came under Durants control they were mostly supplied as cowl and ch***is to coach builders to put whatever truck body on that they saw fit. I've even seen pics of a 1926 Buick Firetruck.

    An interesting (but mostly irrelevant) sidenote: The Six cylinder Buick engine was last used in Buick cars around 1931(?) but lived on in GMC trucks until GMC finally brought out its own line of 228, 248, & 270 engines in 1938. A cursory inspection indicates that the "Jimmie's" design derived directly from the Buick.

    Super cool and just like it likely should have been done. You could do a full resto but then it wouldn't be nearly as practical to drive.

    Does seem to be a fairly rare piece of motoring history and as long as what can be saved stays with the truck for any future un modification, it's cool.

    As a former Hupmobile owner I agree with those who say some cars are so rare they should be restored. This Buick is one of them. If it was not complete as it is I would say do whatever you want, but this one needs to be restored STOCK. Just my two cents worth. Brian

    this is exactly why I couldnt buy something like this.
    A thread here posted before talking about rodding a stock vehicle is brought to mind. I couldnt touch something like that.
    And i wouldn't invest in a vehicle that i couldnt driove down the road at 55-60 mph. Museums need these kind of vehicles.

    The last year for a factory Buick truck, was 1923 and I base that on text from the book "Seventy Years of Buick" by George H. Dammann.

    Under the 1928 Buicks, he states "Buick built only one truck this year. It was this (photo shows an enclosed van) experimental model which never went beyond the prototype stage".
