Hey Poncho people with the early straight-8 motor. I need some help with carb vacuum lines and fittings as well as routing. I've got a '54 Poncho with a straight-8 and a Carter WCD carb. I need to know what vacuum line goes to what and what the fitting size is in case I need to make one (which I'm sure I will). Pictures and any help would be appreciated. Pic of the carb... draw on it if you need to. There is a threaded male fitting for the choke (on the choke obviously) and one female threaded port at the base of the carb. Just need to know what goes to where on that engine. Thanks! Scooter
Just went to check out mine (from 53) and there's no vacuum lines to the carb. One connection for the choke to exhaust manifold and the other connection for fuel in. Also, you might check that carb. It doesn't look like my Carter...it looks older than the 53-54 carb.
It's for sure a Carter WCD 2bbl. It was used in 49 and up straight eights. I beleive there were a few options including a couple different Carters, a Stromberg and maybe even a Rochester.
Found this picture. It shows the line going to the manifold as you mentioned and also another one off the base that goes to.... where does it go? Maybe that base line goes to the vacuum advance on the distributor?
Correct, the line off the base is for your vacuum advance. The threaded hole in the first picture is for your fuel line. and the male fitting on the choke is goes to a hole in the middle of your exhaust manifold. Its the same on my '50 Buick OHV I8
That motor's lookin good! Makes me want to pull my whole front clip off and paint everything all pretty! Need to talk to you. Sending you a PM. Thanks again everyone! Scooter
