I am in the process of rebuilding my 4160 600 CFM manual choke 1850-2 carb, and I noticed that there was a small filter inside the inlet. When i looked at it with the bowl removed and the inlet fitting still in place, it was smashed in place.
I removed the fitting and pulled the filter out and need to know if I need a new one or will my external fuel filter elimnate the need for that one?

  2. It's there because it is. You can run without it or with it. Your choice.

I always run two filters one before the fuel pump and one between the carb and the fuel pump. Maybe that's overkill but my holleys usually come off because that are wore slap out not because they got dirt in 'em.

    That about covers it.

to answer your specific question, if you add an external filter, you eliminate the need for the one in the fuel inlet.

But that extra one really doesn't hurt anything, as long as it's clean, and has it's spring and gasket....

Thats the problem there was no spring and gasket, just this br*** filter crammed into the space all folded upon itself.

I'm going to do what porkn****** said and run two filters, one beofre the fuel pump and one before the carb.
    Thanks.
