  3. Here are some spindles modelled by 40Tudor in Solidworks, saved by me as Parasolids for the Pro-Eng guys

    Attached Files:

  4. And here are a set of 35-40 Ford kingpins and thrust bearings ---the thrust bearing goes on the underside of the axle boss, and the side with the 45 degree bevel on the inside diameter faces down---I notices that there chould be a bit of a cavity hogged out of the inside face of the spindle to provide a clearance for the thrust bearing, but hey!!! its close enough!!!

    Attached Files:

  5. JohnyFast pointed out that the spring shackles were at the wrong angle---and he's absolutely correct. I fixed that this morning, and also added the kingpins and thrust bearings to the model, as well as the spindles (35-40 Ford)---sorry about that Johny---Brian
    the zip files are parasolids

  6. Does anyone have 3D models of 35-40 Ford wheel hub/brake drum units and backing plates???

Brian, all I have to measure from that isn't attached to a car is some 37 mechanical brakes with wide five hubs/drums. So I worked from some drawings found online with basic dimensions taken from the 37 stuff. Here is what I came up with, not sure how accurate they are, but better than nothing. These parts are fronts, but modifications to the hub would work for the rear on a banjo rearend. The model has a 5 on 5.5 b/c.

  9. For anybody that wants to mount that chevy smallblock, here's a set of sidemounts---the round peice of tubing takes a "Pete and Jakes" microflex bushing with a 1/2" thrubolt.---Brian

  10. And for anybody that wants to get some of that awsome chevy power to the driveshaft, here's a turbo 350 modelled by Jani Luoma (of Finland, I think)

Very Cool thread... Does anyone have host space where we can compile all of these models in some sort of easily browseable form ? Having access to all of this could really help us put projects together faster.

I modelled up my ranchero subframes as part of putting together some subframe connectors - but I doubt that will be of much use to anyone.

  12. over the top neat! and i thought i was on top of things with my skills sending attachments with e-mail. now if i can just figure out how to post pic's that would rule, someday.

VERY cool...I have not messed around with 3d stuff in quite a few years. I just might have to pick up the software and start messing with it. Seems like a better thing to do in the evening then vid games. :)

once again...very cool! and for those of us that have not used solidworks is there a starter book that you would recomend?

damn boys some good work here, makes me want to start using solidworks again, havent touched it in three years but you guys are giving me the itch. I have alot of buddys (went to school for idustrial design) who use solidworks and render using 3dsmax, and they make some pretty killer renderings anybody here use 3dsmax for rendering?

  16. An absolute killer book on how to use Solidworks is "Inside Solidworks" 2nd edition by David Murray, isbn#0-7668-2348-2. It is a bit outdated now, as it was written in 2001 but I still use it as good resource material. He may even have a newer edition available by now.

  17. And if you need something to put that chev smallblock in, how about a 29 model A roadster???:D :D ---Whoops, sorry. even zipped up, its too large a file to post.---Brian

  18. 3dsmax is the standard around here.
my kid bro went to TX Tech and learned on Ideas used by Ford.
He's now at Peterbuilt and using Pro-E, I think...
I tried my hand at Rhinocerous and barely got past acquaintance.
so now what's the deal with this file type that autocad can read? I'm an acad guy and am really jonesin for this model...
back in the day, I played with acad mech desktop. it's parametrics were pretty cumbersome...

  19. yeah, doesn't anyone out there have an ftp site???

Way Kewl, I've got a SBC sitting in the garage with a high-rise intake mani, it wouldn't go well with the stock exhaust mani you've got there -- should I model it?
BTW: I can only provide STEP or DWB format, I use VariCAD only.

  22. I have those items already----but I could use an intake manifold waterneck---I don't have one of them. ---thanks---Brian

    brianangus,
Do you have the solidworks file of the whole engine? I work for a Rapid Prototyping company in Austin and would like to build a prototype of the whole car, part by part. Of course it would not be large scale. I have the trans. and bellhousing only. It would be cool to see your drawn up model and hold in hand.

    Thanks

  26. I do have the entire engine modelled in solidworks, but the file is too big to email or post. I don't totally trust the engine block and heads.--They were modelled by someone else in 2D and and I converted them to 3D---there is no boss modelled to mount the starter, fuel pump, nor oil filter. Its good enough to establish "overall sizes" for laying out a chassis, but not good enough for stereolithography.---Brian

    Brian,
How about ftp? I could give you my companys ftp site to send them to. I would build them in SLS, the block would use too many supports. Are the zip files in MM or In? I just need to figure the scale in order to mount to the trany.

    Thanks

I figured out how to import the SAT file and save it as a dwg, using AutoCAD 2007. Thanks.

Great work here. I just came across this thread this morning. ( mostly cause I went looking for a 3d model of a SBC, duh)

I would love to get the iges file on the motor and trans. I am starting a design to fit under a Fiat Topolino body I came across. Not a lot of room so I think modeling it would be a big help

    bettermousetrap@adelphia.net

edit - after reading some more, I see the file it too big to email. Any other way to get it?

    Thanks

My company is "switching" to Autocad Inventor. We currently use Autocad 2006.

    Any Hamb-ers using Inventor?
