Speedway waterpumps for later model flatties:(

    who else is waiting for these?

    Speedway has had those waterpumps ( w/engine mounts) back ordered for 6 months now:(
    I've been waiting for mine for the past month and a half and still no answer till when they'll come in!
    they only problem trying to go anywhere else to find them, is that speedway supplies (makes the best one) and supplies everyone else.

    My 51 Merc motor is just sitting in the shop at Alex's, just waiting for these waterpumps to come in and i can't get it on the road without them, everything else is done already.

    Does anyone know what the hold up is?
    Is Speedway the only source for these new ideal waterpumps?
    Speedway ...what's the hold up?

    Steve, not sure what the hold up with Speedway.....but i guess it has to be down to manufacturing.

    There's a guy in Florida who makes flatty pumps, supposed to be the best out there, sorry i can't find his info right now but i do have it somewhere because i'm going to use them on the new motor.

    Hopefully somebody on here will have his contact info, might speed things up for you!

    I have used Skip Haney to rebuild a distributor and coil for a 1936 Ford Flathead (stock). He warrants all his work (coil is 12 years!) and is very knowledgable and helpful with technical questions. I have had no problem with him nor his work to date and would recommend him to anyone.

    I bought mine off of Ebay from a supplier in Indiana; same price as Speedway and appear to be the same castings. Since I'm building the motor to an earlier spec (pre'49) I've blocked off the top vents and could use the 59A pumps; if you can locate a set of the new 59A's - I'll trade you even up for the 8BA pumps.

    I've got the Speedway pumps on my flatty and they work fine but I'm not sure they are worth waiting six months for. Skip has a good reputation and I would not hesitate buying from him.

    This seems to be a common occurance with Speedways pumps, I ran into the same situation about a year ago, and it was the only thing keeping my A from the road. Skip does not manufacture new pumps, he rebuilds originals, so that wasn't an option since I didn't have any pumps. I decided to use original pumps, and send them off to Skip if they gave problems. That was over 3000 miles and a year ago and they havn't shown as much as dampness around the seals as yet, I got mine from Early Ford V8 in Balston Spa NY. I have run mine in everything from 40 to 90 degree weather and it has never run over 190. My point here is that you can get the stock pumps all over the place and can have a lot of fun driving (probably for years) and still have a good set of good cores to send off to skip if needed.

    What are their customer service people telling you? I got my pumps in good time (actually shipped express) but that was a year ago. I contacted Skip Haney about his rebuilds, but he doesn't have replacement pulleys, uses a longer bushing instead of the double bearing that Speedway pumps use, and the cost of the rebuilds is around $100 per pump vs. $90 for new. I have heard good reviews of Skips pumps on a few boards, so he's doing something right.:rolleyes: I understand he spent ALOT of time designing the impellers.
    As for other sources for the Speedway pumps, mine had a paper tag inside from some place called CAT castings. Google it and see what you find.

    The only problem using my old ones was one of them was cracked at the motor mount where it bolts to the frame.

    probably a dumb question, but have you tried the guys at Old Ford here in town? Maybe they have a spare one that you could at least get on the road for now... :rolleyes:

    NAPA shows the left pump, remanufactured, for 45 dollars, core charge 11 more...lack of right pump might just be part of the VERY spotty coverage on NAPA online for olde parts, or mean they are really out...

    I picked up a set of used pumps on eBay, and then sent them to Skip Haney for rebuilding. Did the same thing with an original Ford coil. Great service and workmanship. JMTCW.

    I got my pumps from NAPA. New (not reman) for like $68 a piece. They had them both for me the next day. Part #s on the boxes read 55-77 and 55-78.
