Just got these two 61 Starliners home today, heres the pics where i found them, and a few of the red one that i pulled into there neighbors yard. The yellow one is in really nice shape and used to be a drag car, no engine but it has really *****in tuck N' roll in it. I ran the vin on it and it came with a 390 in it.
I really like the '61 'liners - the '60 gets all the attention for some reason, but I don't care for certain aspects of it. Great find!
You lucky *******. LOL Man, those are sweet. My cousin across the road from me has a gold one he pulled from a barn about 15 years ago. 390, 3 on the tree, and 3 dueces. Had a stuck piston, but after soaking it and working with it a bit he got it fired up and running. He drives it about once every month or two. I love those Starliners.
The '60 has a very unique tail treatment, and was a bridge between '50s and '60s styling. The taillights on the '61 really don't look like anything else, and it of course has wide fins. I far prefer the '60 for its space-age look. The '61 looks solidly like a '60s car. Despite preferring the '61, I think all of the Starliners are cool, with some of the best "big car" lines Ford ever developed. Good find digging up those two cars, Mr. Stephen Fields.
For those who don't know, these make great stablemates for Stevo's '60 Fairlane that he just put a Y-block with three deuces into, (check out his avatar), thus making him **** far more then you might have first thought! Great score Stevo. I sure hope he's still living down the road from me when I start looking for my next project! Vance

Ok, there were three versions of the 390 built in '61 with the same Z fifth digit in the VIN. The were 390-300hp.(standard 390 with hydralic lifters), 390-375hp.(single 4, solid lifters, hi-po), 390-401hp.(3x2s that were dealer installed, remainder of package same as 375hp. version). 375 & 401 versions were sticks only. There are several other "clues" to indicate a hipo car if you know where to look. My father bought and raced one of these in 1961. He owns a 390-401 car now. They are very cool cars and were raced by many SS legends back in the day!!! Bonner,Brannan,Ritchey,Sox,Landy and many more drove one of these!!!! Does it appear the front brake lines are still original? If so, where do they run on the front crossmember?

Aw ****, I knew I'd screw that up! 1960 1960 Starliner I prefer the 1960 Starliner. Hope that clears that up.
The yellow one has the Z fifth digit and it is a stick car, and it does appear that the brake lines are original, it runs along the back side of the crossmember, what other clues are there to indicate if its a hipo car?
The brake lines should run across the top of the front crossmember for a hi-po. Other things to look for are thick clutch pedal rubber, 3/8ths. fuel line, 5 leaf rear springs, and 3" front brake drums.
