ohh they were used in many early day jalopy and track cars, Don,t know why or how good they were, but read about them. and even seen a pontiac 6 banger in a roadster. [Liethold& Liethold]. first car i drove was my Dads 39 pontiac 8 business coupe, and drove a buddies pont 6, and was amazed that the 6 was quicker. so they mustv had somethin goin fo them. 'Bak wen,' they tried most anything, on most any engine, thats what made racing so interesting.

ps you might be able to put a later model 3 or 4 speed GM tranny on it. check out the bellhousing measurements. would really make a worthwhile change.

Thanks, 39cent. It's heavy but not as heavy as I thought it was gonna be. Maybe that's why it was faster than the 8. Cool motor and with the trans it's shorter than a small block chevy and trans!
Are you in anyway related to 50cent?:D Just kidding. -stick

Since this thread has been around the block a while, thought I'd update my pics - lot's o progress since my previous post. Chrysler Spitfire, dual carb, dual exhaust. Still figuring out the "fluid-drive" tranny. Only running 1st and 3rd. 2nd, 4th and reverse are off electric switches, and not working yet.

    I can't believe I haven't posted to this thread .... yet.

I've got 2 261's and 6 235's. I've got a 3 carb Offy, and a Wade RO34 blower setup for my Stovebolt 6. I've also got a couple of sets of Jahns pop-up pistons, Twin point dizzies, 290 degree duration cam, with .450" lift, and some more stuff.

Its going into a 29 Ford Coupe - 5 window.

here's an old pic. Its in bits now ready to go back together, and for some pics for the HAMB.

My 39 coupe had a I-6 hemi a bit modified. It's back in Germany now. They took all the HP outta it.
I still have a couple of the motors and a few cars to put em in :)

This one is 420 inches and supercharged. For those of you that bitch about the price of S.C.O.T. Blowers you can buy a few of them for what the blower in this barge cost me

My son's 65 Econoline is still enjoying its original 240 straight six. I'm still running the original 235 that came in my 57 Chevy sedan. The 235 in the Chevy is weak for my tastes, so plans include a rebuild with a performance cam, dual carbs, and split exhaust. So many people have tossed out straight sixes over the years that now, they really draw a lot of attention at shows.

I was always a Ford guy as a kid. V8 flatheads were THE hot motor. Until I witnessed a 37 chev coupe with a full race 270 GMC, take on all comers one night ! this was around 1957, and i never forgot that. I now have a straight axle, 39 chev 2dr with a 261 chev 6, 4speed saginaw, and 55 chev rear end.

    Heres mine
I couldnt find a 235 so a 216 had to do. I must admit.....its crude. Kinda like being the fat kid at a track meet. But It ran so strong, I put a dual carb setup and a glasspack and it fucking howls.

All thats left now is waiting to throw a rod.

    Untill then.....

  29. That Chevy 6 mill is outrageous. Do you know what kind of blower/intake ?
One of those st-ups would be awesome on my '39 or '46 Plymouth flathead.
