  1. Hello- I'm wondering if anyone can tell me if black chrome is still being done by anyone? If so, the closer to MI, the better- -Thanks in Advance- Betruger

Powder coating would be the easiest to find someone who does it.

  4. I think what you're actually referring to is black nickel. It can look cool when it's done well, but it's pretty tempermental [it has a tendency to come out sort of brown looking]. It's also pretty fragile- it scratches and chips much more easily than chrome and doesn't hold up to heat well. Expect to pay at least ten percent more than chrome for black nickel.

As for shops doing it, there aren't many. Meclec here in Fresno does it, but they kind of suck ass, and take forever.

I have seen this place advertised in Kustoms Illustrated, I have never seen any of their work but they advertise that they do black chrome.

There was an article in Rod and Custom a few months ago about a new coating technology. They could tint it several colors and think I remember seeing a coil spring that was almost black. I can't remember the name of the company. Anybody have that issue handy?

  7. Anybody got I pic of it? I don't know that I've ever seen it.

There are some plating shops in this area that are currently working on black chrome process. It's in the early stages mostly for harley davidson. When they nail down the process it will be for high volume production only and getting a single part plated would be very expensive. There is also a process called PVD (possitive vaper disposition),also not cheep. There's only one place here in mich.and it's hard just getting in the door.I believe there are some places on the west coast that may do some one-off pieces.

Advanced plating in tennesse does it, and it does scratch easy, i have seen those weld drag wheels, they look kick ass but are very finicky.
