    AMEN Goztrider-

With regards to Oldskool's short-lived original post and subsequent rant...

You come on here, spout out a bunch of stuff, then get pissed when no one immediately responds?? Even though it's at a late hour and the info you give is regional?

My dad used to hang out and watch the progress at the Alexander Brother's shop when they were located close to him growing up. His interest back then led to my interest in Custom cars now...so what?

I personally met/know the god-son of Big Daddy Ed Roth, he's a helluva nice guy. Great stories too. So what?

I've also met Bill Hines. So what?

I've said "HI!" to Gene Winfield. So what?

Sounds like you had a couple 'adult beverages' at your favorite hangout with this guy, ran to the HAMB to post about it, then looked at what you posted in the morning- saw the responses, and sobered up. We haven't seen anything from you since about it...others have contributed useful info on this Mack guy for you, you should be thanking them for that.

You met someone cool, yes...but posting the title you posted without any real historical photos/info/bios/etc. is bound to get you...well, bound over. Especially since in succession you post 2 rants about how nobody reads your post/cares after reading your ramblings - after an HOUR? And at a LATE hour at that?

You get pissed at the general populace here for that?? I'm local and I didn't know what you were talking about. I wasn't framiliar with the car until someone ELSE posted pictures! The HAMB is INTERNATIONAL! Not DETROIT-based. (Thank god!) LOTS (100 according to you) of people looked at your post and probably said "I have no idea who he is talking about" and moved on. I took it seriously and tried to follow along with the run-ons until you wrote "Telegraf", then you lost my respect.

I think I can speak for those that posted here that we were expecting...more.

  2. I got a sock that belonged a guy who used to work as a dishawasher at a resturaunt that George Barris used to dine at... maybe you could FUCK OFF in that old sock and feel one up on the rest of us for doing it.

I mean... shit, think about it... George Barris may have laid eyes on that old sock at one point in his life!

  3. Did I ever tell you guys about the time I took a piss next to Gene Windfield at the 50th GNRS?

True story... next time I see ya... ask me about it.

    Sam.

  5. Awesome car, it's history shold live on. Dumb thread, it should die.

  6. The only, and I mean ONLY reason I'm posting this (especially after reading all this stuff) is because I know people are reading this because of the controversy...therefore, someone might have what I'm looking for...

1956, dad was living in California, working for Gene Autry and managed to get a part in a little flick called "Bus Stop." He was the first bull rider in the rodeo sequence, they cut out his speaking part...long story, to make it shorter, yes, he met marilyn face to face, even talked with her...blah blah blah, so f'n what, what I want is a copy of the movie on DVD so I can make a special youtube video for my dad this year, he's gettin' up there in years and I'd like to do somethin nice for him before he....yeah, unthinkable.

if anyone has it, or knows where I can find a copy on DVD, maybe even with deleted scenes, I'd be eternally grateful...

now, should I apologize for hijacking a doomed post?

    Mark

    (edited part follows):
BTW, that car is amazing, a true work of art...a lot of work went into that and to me, THAT is what epitomizes traditional styling :)

Ok, cool car, but how come everyone is only posting pics of the one car???? People like Roth, Starbird, even Boyd,,,, if you mention them to different people, you will be given different answers to a lot of different cars they like BEST. This guy build anything else? Aside from that, my bitch was the WAY this was done. Had the original poster posted his first post, I would never have responded, either good or bad. It was the following posts that deserved the bashing he took. As for Frank Mack, he was a REGIONAL BUILDER. I can name off car/engine builders around here that most of you in the north east never heard of. Dean Turk comes to mind. Any of you know him that aren't in the southwest? Butch Tucker? If you are in AZ you damn well know Butcher, but others might not. Squeege? ALL regional guys.

I'm just totally astonished that so many people, on the premier traditional hotrodding discussion board, did not know who Frank Mack was and about his T. We all can't know everybody, but that is just basic background information for traditional hotrods. :(

Edit: REGIONAL BUILDER??? Nonsense. If I had the time or inclination, I could pull out dozens and dozens of references to him in national publications, over a span of many years.

  14. I recognized the car, but not the name. Got any photos of his others?

Type in "Darryl Starbird" into yahoo search. First page is his cars. Now type in "Ed Roth", again first page. Now type in "Frank Mack", 39th site, and even then still that one car and just a quick blurb. Even one of the ones I pointed out "Butch Tucker" is #26.

I can't beleive you guys don't know the Frank Mack T. Certainly in the top 5 most significant hot rods of all time.
I would definitely try to get some copies of those old photos to hang on the wall.

Got her autograph that day, but no pic, typically strip clubs don't allow cameras.

Plus on the direct topic,,,, First the guy didn't actually meet Frank Mack. He met a guy who KNEW Frank Mack. Next, seems a LOT of us know the CAR, just not the BUILDER. All of you "experts",,, DID HE BUILD ANYTHING ELSE??????? Seems none of you are responding to that particular question asked by a few.

So - one's validity as a builder of note is determined by Yahoo rankings?

    Gimme a fuckin' break.

I believe that Frank Mack only built that one car...several times. He is a true original hotrodder, not a professional car builder like Roth, Starbird, etc. His car is considered a seminal hotrod and predates most of the professionals. As I recall, the car was originally built as his daily driver (circa 1948?).

It is not the number of search engine hits, but rather the quality. (The same could be said for number of car builds vs. their quality.) From the Peterson Museum Website:
"Although Southern California is generally considered the birthplace of hotrodding, this seminal roadster was built by Frank Mack of Farmington, Michigan. The e-MACK-ulate T became famous in hot rod circles after it appeared in the November 1953 issue of Hot Rod magazine."

Wow! That needs to be drug out of the closet everytime one of those arguments about what is traditional and what is not comes up on the board. I see paint, and I see primer. I see fenderless roadsters, and I see full fendered sedans and pickups. I see what is currently referred to as "rat rods", and I see show cars.:)

Any truth to the story about some guy begging and pleading for Frank to sell him his roadster, explained to Frank that he was young and had no money, so Frank sells him the car cheap and within a week the goof deals it off to Bruce Meyer for a huge profit,... then some Detroit are rodders find out and threaten bodily harm to this goof unless he give more money to Frank.

Any truth/accuracy to this story,...any HAMBers involved in said threats?

Nope, but as MANY have said on here, " I remember the CAR, never knew who built it". I'm in the same boat. I have seen MANY pics of that ONE CAR. Great. I have seen pics of MANY one cars built over the years by ONE GUY, doesn't mean I remember the names. One guys in fact that can't/wont EVER be found on any search engine. Ones that are much nicer, but were not built that early, don't participate in shows and were NOT in any magazine. I give that car/builder KUDOS, but, for me (and it appears many others here) I personally NEVER HEARD HIS NAME BEFORE. Because of not ever hearing of him before I do/did what many/most of you do I SEARCHED ONLINE, fully expecting it to hit me square in the face so I would go "crap, I musta had a huge brain fart, of course I know who that is", but was I hit square in the face? No, I saw a little article written about him. Does that make him less of a builder? NOPE, not at all.

What it DID show me is, the name of a guy who built a cool car in his day. I know many of those today. As I drive past their houses and see the lights on and see the shadows of their cars. They may never see a national trophy, or a magazine cover, but the cars are cool as hell. Will anyone remember their name 50 years from now? Probably not. Does not winning an award "not validate" them as car guys? No. If they do win a national trophy, or make cover, does it validate it more? Not in my eyes.

Give ME a fuckin' break. He built a cool car during his life,,,,,,,, LIKE MOST OF US DO EVERY DAY !!!!!!!

  28. S.R.I. you have demonstrated that evolution is not a perfect thing and the occasional genetic miscreant is among us.
The "ONLY" car he built just happens to be a benchmark in hot rodding. The fact that he only built one car is irrelevant, the fact that it only won, one national event is irrelevent. This car alone changed a great deal in the world of hot rods and is one of the most copied cars there is, that makes Frank Mack and his T important.
Next your going to tell us that Doane Spencer is a nobody as well as he only built the ONE car??
The significance of the Mack T and the Doane Spencer roadster will eclipse anything I can do and very obviously anything you can do.
So by your logic I better go google myself, at worst I could be 8th from the top of the worlds greatest car builders! One of the 8 even won a show!!
Move over Roth, Move over Plowboy Im the next big thing (By SRIs reasoning)
