Hey Kids - This just in: The thrash continues on the "Son of Godzilla" Morris Minor, in preparation for this years World of Speed event at Bonneville (Sept. 12-15). The gutted carc*** is balanced on jackstands out in the shop, while I build a new drivetrain, rewire the car and replace yards of rusty sheetmetal. Oh yeah, I also rebuilt the whole rear suspension.
It's been really heartwarming to see people stepping up and helping make this dream finally come true (we went there in '96, but got rained out). Too many stories to list here, but I'd definitely be screwed without the help of dozens of people - some of them total strangers! It's been very humbling, that's for sure...
Anyway, a few weeks ago, I posted a thread on here, asking if any HAMBers live in between Klamath Falls and Wendover, as that's the route we're driving (that's right - my buddy CC and I are driving this 10 second car with a 2 1/2 gallon gas tank cross country). Had a rare spare minute, so thought I'd try it again today. Just in case the unthinkable should happen and we need a place to fab a new front clip out of some fence posts, barbed wire and irrigation pipe. You know...
When I last posted, R&C was going to run the story of the build-up, testing, the big drive and the salt bash itself, but now they're saying "maybe not" (I freelance for them sometimes). So I can no longer promise you'll get famous if you get involved in this deal - but your Karma will be even better! I'm waiting to get the final word from the R&C guys...If they don't run the story, maybe it'll end up on the HAMB?
Also in that last post was a mention of maybe making up some shirts to sell to help finance this deal. We were planning on the magazine money to pay for the trip, but now that that's not certain, we really have to get busy with the fund raising. We came up with a pretty cool shirt design (with help from Nate at Flat Black Industries - thanks, man!) and these shirts will be available soon (like, next week), if anyone's interested. The last post on here netted 13 pre-orders for unseen shirts - not too shabby! Other fund raising efforts have included working lots of overtime, selling cars and parts (man, did that hurt!) and even trips to the blood bank. We're hoping the shirts will work out better...
So, uh, what I meant to say was: still looking for HAMBers enroute to B-ville and some snappy t-shirts are coming soon. Thanks kids!

Here is a preview of the support shirt.
The front will have the word "CREW" on the right.
all of them will be white.
All proceeds will go to getting Scotty & this project to B-ville.
We will start out with 100 ranging in sizes from med to **XL for you big guys.
Help keep this active and on top. this is a dream we all share but rarely get to see come to light. Do the next best thing and help someone else live their dream and get a record.

    Out,
    Nate

Hey thanks Nate! This guy is exactly what I'm talkin' about - I was cluelessly wondering how to go about putting a shirt idea into production and Nate (a total stranger to me) says, "Hey, let's do it!". And Presto - here it is. Thanks for posting this image too, Nate - I'm one of those knuckledraggers who doesn't know how to post images on here.
By the way, these shirts are guaranteed to mop up even the slippery synthetic oils - good quality stuff...

Details on the shirt sales will be posted next week - we don't know yet how we're gonna do it. Waiting to hear from Ryan on that too - IF he survives the LSR (which I always thought stood for Land Speed Record - shows you how much I know)...

Digger - Thanks for the heads up, but I'm not going to "Speed Week". The "World of Speed" event is put on by the Utah Salt Flats Racers ***ociation in September, so the racers can get in a few more runs (without the crowds) before winter comes. They have a couple of entry level cl***es for legit street cars: the 130 MPH Club (1 mile from a standing start) and the 150 MPH Club (2 miles). That's what I'm going for. The bottom line is just to be able to say I ran my car there. I've driven a race car at Speed Week and it was a major kick in the ***(!), but I'd also like to say I ran my street car there. I don't know why more people don't do it...

    Digger,

He is headed out for the USFRA World of Speed Sept. 12-15 not the SCTA August meet.
Scotty correct me if I am wrong.

Here's how I know mine is the fastest: I've owned more than one of these cars (as in "two") and this one is definitely the fastest! Actually Jimbob, the worlds fastest Morris is in your country - can't remember the guys name, but he stretched one into a Pro Mod and hits 200 MPH with it! Yikes! Looks just as hairy as it sounds, too...
Mine looks somewhat hairy, I guess. Mostly, it looks ridiculous. But in a fun way, I hope. Maybe Flat Black can post a shot of it here???

Well, I gotta panic off to bed now - gotta go to work at 2:30 AM (drivin' a truck nowdays - full benefits and weekends off!). But I'll check back here after work tomorrow and gladly answer any other questions, pleas for advise and/or cries for help. Until then, discuss a****st yourselves, etc...And hey guys, thanks for your interest in this whacky deal - it's even more fun with you guys along,
    Scotty

If R&C can't swing the article, I would think Freiburger over at Hot Rod would eat it up.

Put me down for a shirt and anything else I can do.

    Good luck, -Abone.

SOUNDS LIKE A PLAN TO ME !!

Let me know if we can help in anyway as well and put me down for a shirt 2x size.

We ran our 49 Ford truck there last year and experienced a rain out the second day although we did get in 5 runs or so.

    Check our adventure at www.gasolinealleyshops.org

Also i sponsor the shirts for the World of Speed event with our company "Linder Fuel Injection" and am willing to trade shirt for shirt with ya as we also have a crew shirt for our truck.

We will be out in our hauler and maybe we can have a HAMB pit area together some where. :)

I hope everyone dont figure out the USFRA event is the one to race at without the huge crowds at Speedweek....

I will buy breakfat at the Salt Flats Cafe one morning. Awesum breakfast burrito..........

Hey Jim, you're on! We'll let you buy breakfast AND trade shirts! Just went to your site and now I'm not only late for bed, but WAY too revved up to sleep! That's fun stuff. BTW, saw your truck on the USFRA site last night...

And hey FlamedAbone: Thanks for the support man! Always good to hear from you. Maybe some day we'll see that Poncho powered A-bomb on the salt, eh?

How is the shirt thing going to work? Is this the place for orders? I want a large. Also, my offer still stands from the last thread. I am relatively close to you, but I can help out if the need arises.

Crusty - Thanks man. We really appreciate your spirit (will PM you). As for the shirts, we'll probably set up a special thread just for that, next week (Wednesdayish). Until then, tell your friends and neighbors!
Hey, any other HAMBers coming to World of Speed???

Good eye, Doc. Yeah, that's my '58 Anglia g***er that I had to sell to finance the Morris rebuild (man, that still hurts BAD!)...
Part 1 of this deal was actually called "How to be a salt hero the ez way", I think. Should be around here somewhere.
I just clicked on here for a quick look, on my way out to the shop. Thanks for posting the pix, Nate ( did I mention this guy is a total stud?)...

  29. Man you like little things with big motors don't you!! My ol 100E was two doored, chopped 2 inches and tubbed rough as guts red primer. Power wasn't HAMB friendly tough, a blown 13B rotary went hard for what it was and could pick the front up off the ground.
I want another to build a G***er, but now I know its not an original idea (Yeah like I could come up with one of them) I guess Ill go the led sled way, cheap daily driver...........

I'll be out on the salt for Speed Week, World of Speed, and the Finals Week. I live near Salt Lake City, so if you guys need anything during your adventure let me know.

I'll be ordering a shirt as soon as you get the ordering info setup.

    Good Luck!!!
    Tom
