Hi Keith: I was hoping you would show up here sometime. If you can't get those pictures posted you can email them to me and I will gladly post them for you. It's great to hear from you, stick around a contribute, we have got a lot of Kustom fans here. BB
Moving on into the 80's and early 90's. I surprised that as many HAMBERS that there are, some of you haven't said hey, that was my car or my buddies!!
two more, ran across these photos of the HAMBS own Safariknut's Poncho, BEFORE he fancied it all up !!! ok thats all for now or maybe ever
Keith, your 51 sure needs some more photo's in this post. Here are some of my favorites And this is how it all started... Hand made grille
Gee Rik. How nice to put all these up. While the car is mine, I really felt in having it re-created that it was one of Barris's nicest designs and wanted to preserve it, in a sense, for all Kustom enthusiasts. I hope they enjoy its beauty as much as I do. Keith
And we all appreciate it very much Keith... Barris Original. Second version of teh Larry Ernst Chevy And the first version
I want to thank you all for posting these pics. I was at some of these old shows and it brings back memories.
Here are some photos of my own custom project, a late '40s / early '50s style custom, based on a '48 Plymouth Club Coupe.
Here's my 57 Fairlane former 60's show car I am restoring .Pictures are from '66 & earlier this week.
AMEN! It's an honor to have you here. If you start looking through our friend Rikster's archives, you'll find many nice pictures of just this style. http://public.fotki.com/Rikster/11_car_photos/beautiful_custom_cars Best wishes J.B.
I owned this car an couple of months ago, its like one of the nicest I've ever owned, and about the only "kustom"-ish vehicle also. Was built in the late 50's or early 60's locally by an hot rodder, he died a couple of years back, and I've traded/owned/bought/sold through his collection, but...I've saved most of it. ITs an '53 or so Mercury, with an Lincholn Y-block, the rear fenders have been stretched using sheetmetal, pieces of fender, fiberglass, lead, who knows. It has an rear valence pan, which holds the continental kit and fills the space between trunk and bumpers. The door handles and most of the trim was shaved, and its been lowered some we think. The fake "hood scoop" was opened up, and the headlights are frenched. Interior is black and white, with those huge buttons everywhere. Leads me to believe that the car was "updated" or reworked sometime later like the rest of his stuff. I also own an "prototype" of this car, which involved cutting an '54 Merc in half (possibly wrecked) and then attaching its rear quarters to an '49 Lincholn frame and fenders. Doors were cut from the 'Linc door skins and they tried to fit them, hood was missing because of the use of the mercury cowl, the rear windsheild was turned around and used as the front, and the whole thing was abandoned with an trunk full of random trim in an cherry grove. We had to pull the frame out of the ground with an backhoe. Anyway, the guy I sold the black car to was driving it yesterday...
