Thanks for all of the responses. Keep 'em coming.

There are 24 votes for Festival Beach. I want to hear why you voted that way. Maybe there is something the we could incorperate into a show at the Expo. And if you just like it better because it is by the river and under the trees, say that too.

  2. I would agree with Blake....If it was a 200 car gathering, I'd rather be at the old location....but I believe it will never go back to that number, and with that the Expo center has much more to offer.
Things that I feel would make it a little better (this is not criticism, just additions)....first and formost, a second gate for entries only(there is no way my Flathead powered coupe could stay in that line with out OD'ing!!!!).....Second, have a "little, short" burnout area with built in "non-speed" limitations(yes Buzzard and I talked about it)....just for the fun of it.
I really like what the Kontinentals were able to pull off on short notice, and feel that time will only make this turn out even better....WHAT A WEEKEND....WhooHoooooo

I dig the festival beach location...just a good vibe going on there.
That being said, The Expo center is the shit ! (kinda like the old girlfriend / new girlfriend thing) Easier parking, better view of all the cars, etc. Only two things to be addresed have already, vendors selling water & more port-a-cans, in various locations.

Kudos to the Kontinentals for pulling this off on such short notice.Once again, the greatest show on wheels :D

Expo Center was great. Its obvious that the Roundup is going to continue to grow in size with entries, vendors and folks who want to see the show itself. I would agree with others for some future improvements.more port-o-cans, more food/ drink options, covered area to eat or escape the sun, like a giant tent or something. Great job with keeping the vendors with what the Roundup is all about, I hope it never gets semi trailers and huge big budget vendor types like Good Guys has become.

I think one of the best things about Expo was that if you wanted to come see the show you didn't have to park back in the residential area in front of someones house. I hate having to jam up all over the neighborhoods. Even if the shows car number got smaller the crowds are still going to grow and the area at festival beach just cant hang with the size of this event anymore.

To me friday night at Congress is the shit, laid back and relaxed, and to me that afternoon and evening is the best part of the show. Saturday night on the otherhand is a bit too wild for my tastes. Parking is impossible and the vibe saturday night is too tense.

Once again the weekend and show was great, HUGE thanks to everyone involved for a such an effort under some extreme conditions.

can`t type to sun burnt ! great show guy`s , it`s geting to big to have at the old place. I thought it was a bad move , till I got there ! nice and spread out, I don`t think I saw it all ! the line coming in sucked because of the people that hadent picked up there pack`s from the club ! there should be a in for the people that have the band on there arm and sticker on the windshield ! and I havent argued with buzzard in a whille ? so yea we need a dam burn out erea ! buz . congress would not be so packed with late model non car people . if it wasen`t advertised so mutch on the raido and tv new`s the car people know about it the general puplic should not ! unless it becomes all about the money and not the car`s great weekend !

One vote for burnout area. Check.

Actually, there were several people asking about burnouts. I doubt it will happen, but I'll bring it up for consideration. I think the general feeling within the club is that way already have an event for burnouts. And even with as many Kontinentals and Fender Skirts as we have, we still get spread pretty thin on Saturday with everything that needs to get done.

We had to do some last minute advertising to make sure people knew to come out to the Expo Center. We need the general admission out there to keep this thing going. I agree that the Congress stuff needs to be "off the radar" of the general admission. I think we have enough car people to pack the clubs and support the businesses.

Sorry, no arguments today. I'm too tired and happy.

I do think we are adding a Klown Kar Parade on Friday, though!:)

i, too, was a bit skeptical about the new location. in a nutshell, the event is just killer and the expo is the spot.

...anyone consider Richard Moya park (183/Burleson?) as an alternative as well? same "neighborhood" feel, grassy and shaded like any other park only bigger than festival beach. went to a lowkey car gathering there last year and it seems to be like 2 festival beaches big.

    it could happen.

its been said over 'n over, but i'd like to send a big thank you and congratulations to The Kontinentals for successful planning & execution of this madness called The Roundup.

I guess it boils down to whether or not you guys want the show to grow. I have been very happy with it at festival beach and was even happier at the expo center. I'm sure cost will be a driving factor as well. Were there any cost differances between the two venues? Will there be any booking problems etc etc..

I voted for the expo center but will be equally happy at either place.

There are cost differences. Some in favor of each place. Steve, Will, and Brian will have to take all of those logistic and cost factors into consideration. I'm just looking for feedback of the fun factor for participants.

The Expo center worked in the pinch but I like the lazy, SHADY, small town, down by the river quality of the Festival beach location....kinda like Pate was "back in the day" before they moved to the Speedway...

I liked all the additional rides in the lot, but at the Beach the show just feels more like home.:D

Evidently that area was next to the stage while Highschool Caesar was sound checking Saturday night! For some reason, the same guys decided to drive out right in the middle of their set as well-I thought it was rude as hell...

I'll throw my two cents in...I've attended the last three round ups. Festival beach is very 'austiny'...has a great feel with the river, trees and grass, but is hard to get in and out of and to park around. It is a very laid back location and cool with the cars parked among the trees. I thought the expo center was great...I think what really got me was the fact you could see how big the show was. Half the fun was watching the endless line of cars entering the show, from when I got there about 11.30 to when I left about 4...they were still coming! I think the layout was great, the tents in the trees was a nice place to meet up, grab some shade and a beer. And much much easier to get in and out of, especially when you need to leave before most do. I think with more than 3 days lead time it could turn into a great venue! Kudos to the Kontinentals and everyone involved for a super show and superb handling of the late minute changes.

One thing I thought would be cool, like seeing the line of cars coming in, is having a cruise loop around the show? Burnouts to me are fun once or twice, but half of what I like about the show is people starting the engines, hitting the switches and just cruisin...all part of what the Congress cruise scene is...

I like both places but it definately made the experience easier at the Expo. I don't think it should be invite only but maybe if a picture was required and the entry's had to be approved according to some loose guidelines. ( ie.. 63 and older, traditional style vehicles ( no billet or whatever ) etc.. Maybe put together a list and have H.A.M.Ber's vote on what should qualify as a starting point for Steve and the guys. My only real wish would be if the actual cruizing be limited to old cars like Paso does. I just felt like the cruisin'/watching just wasn't as good Sat as in the past because of all the locals. If the locals wanna look they should park like the rest of us, just farther down the block. My thoughts were that not near as many people cruised because they were worried that somebody in a toyota was gonna hit their pride and joy. I've been told that fri are always alot more relaxed but because of my job I can never come then. Just a thought. As always a great show. I go to alot of different shows in a year and this is my favorite.

I liked it better than Festival Beach! Parking -- for both participants and spectators -- was much less of a hassle; and there's room to grow. The park on Town Lake may be a cozier setting, but dealing with Austin's Parks Dept always represents a challenge for the Kontinentals.

As for the assertion that it was hot as hell -- I'll just ask where you're from?? Temps on Saturday were in the high 70's. That's pretty comfortable by most people's standards. Water vendors? Sure! Big tents to provide shade and a place to rest for little ones? Great idea! But those things will only improve on what I consider a superior site.

Parking on SoCo ain't even a related issue ... and it's not going to change. So let's not waste a lot of heartbeats talking about it. I parked within two blocks of the front door on both Fri and Sat nites, so I'm not sure anything but "power-parking" is a real issue.

Thanks, Kontinentals, for a great job. And pass along my personal thanks to the APD as well. They were very visible on the street, but remained very low key and laid back. All most people were doing was makin' noise, and APD was mature enough to know that's not a hangin' offense. G

My two cents, having been to only the last two events. I liked the laidback feel of the park last year, the trees, the grass, etc. it felt more 'homey'.

The Expo center worked well this year, but it didn't have that Austin feel to it (whatever that is).

I was amazed at all the people that showed up this year, maybe last year was just as busy but with all the trees and stuff it didn't feel like *huge* like this year did.

I preferred the random parking last year, this year was row after row of cool cars. I was there over 4 hours looked at hundreds of cars, but because there were so many I felt like I had to keep walking to try to see all the cars, when I'd have liked to slow down and smell the hi-test.

I voted for the park, I'd like you to keep the limit to ~500 cars, any more than that and it just gets too, too big.

I am curious, what was the general admission head count compared to last year.

Thanks all you guys and gals who make this happen, where ever it happens!!!

There were nice flush toilets with running water inside that building that said "kiddieland" or something like that.

Also, inside that "building" would be an AWESOME space for a swap area.

I left the Expo center at around 6 pm like the rules stated. I was able to find a spot in the alley right next to the Cont,Club!

I do like the new venue. Being asthmatic I appreciate the lack of dust in the air.

    THANK YOU Kontinentals!

i liked the Expo Center for sure. super easy to get in/out of, plenty of spectator parking.

i have been to Texas Heatwave there several times, and they set up the burnout contest on one of the roads towards the back. it wasnt anywhere inside the fencing of where LSR was set up. dont see why it would be a problem to have one next year.

I have to say I had a BLAST! This was my first year to go to the round-up so I to don't have a comparison but hearing about the parking last year made me a bit paranoid. When at 2 am friday morning I found out I had no brakes and my steering was a mess  on my T and we were hauling it down I could only picture running into someones baby. So alot of space was cool. Next year I don't care where it is. I'll be there.

Amen. These invite only guys should be carefull what they wish for. I've been at this a while and I'm all about the cars. I don't care who plays stand up bass in what band or has what hair cut. If the car scene gets any "cooler" I just don't know what I'll do. I can just see an angry mob turning back a car at the gate because he has discs hidden in those drums or something stupid like that. I hate to see hot rodding take its self any more serious.

    Invite only....that's mega gay x 1,000,000.

As for the venue, I loved it. My dad came into town just to cruise congress, and ended up registering when he found out they moved the venue. He doesn't get around that well and a friend called from on site to explain how much less cramped it was. I think alot of the older guys that started it all would come if it were easier on them. I think the expo will be good for that. My dad said he'll be coming back next year.

    To Clarify my earlier comments.
I had a good time, although the "official" show is almost secondary to Friday and Saturday night on Congress.
If you live here you know what I mean, when else can you drink beer out of a cooler all night on a major street and not be hassled?
The new venue was better to me, because it was laid out better, cars could move without hitting pedestians (mostly), and we had more than 500 entrants.
No comment on the Port O pottys at the venue, was so dehydrated, I didn't use them.
I would sugest that every vendor should be able to (or required to) sell water or soda out of their booth.
I don't know if this is a TABC thing or not, but water should be available. I don't care if it's $4.00 for 16oz. My Kidneys were screaming for it..
Would have brought my own, but didn't know if I could, and I hate to walk back and forth to the car with a cooler.
Trust me, I drink more beer than you do....
Temp saturday was officially 80 degrees, but it was 94 on the parking lot.

This is, and will always be my favourite car show to attend!
Great job by Steve, etc. getting it moved, and changing the radio ads, emails, myspace, print ads in such a short time.
    Thanks.

  30. This was my first, but definitely not last, Roundup and I am overwhelmed. The Kontinentals are a class act and deserve a big THANK YOU in addition to all of the superlatives directed their way. The new venue is outstanding and has plenty of room for future expansion of the event. I'm sure that given more time to prepare the potential of the new location will become apparent. Most impressive!
