seems like there are alot of rods showing up, that have what look like tractor seats in them. bomber seats are cool, but steel tractor seats ?
they have to be uncomfortanle as hell to sit in, and i don't think they look all that good myself.
i can't knock these guys for wanting to do something different tho.
    is it a fad ?

FAD?? Man, that fad ain't goin' nowhere. More like a Mad, you have to be a little Mad to use a tractor seat in a car, excuse me, a rat.

well, i didn't want to rip on them too bad, just in case.....
heck, next thing you know, they'll be using lawn chairs.
by the way...i tried that once, and it didn't work out to well...
lawn chairs like to fold up on you, during a hard launch.

Well duh! you got to zip tie the front of the chair down first.

As for tractor seats... Better then milkcrates I guess

actually... I'd be willing to bet that if milkcrates could rust, you'd see them in a few rods too

In my youth, I spent many a hour sitting on a Farmall tractor seat cutting, raking and stacking hay and actually their not as uncomfortable as they may look.

They have their place, but its on a tractor and not in a car.

my stupid *** brother in law had a 65 ford econoline van once (you know the ones that had the motor between the driver and pasengers seat). well, being the genius that he was...he used a barstool for the drivers seat. he actually drove around like that for a couple of weeks.
he was a real supergenius.....i used to call him wyle e. coyote...

Man, that brought back some great memories. In 1961 one of my friends finally got his '41 Ford convertable running. It didn't have any seat, so we put a couple of lawn chairs in it. When he took off, he was holding onto the steering wheel and I almost ended up in the trunk. He laughed so hard he almost went off of the road. I hadn't thought of that for years. We went junk-yarding and had a seat the next day, a real seat not a tractor seat.

My MF135 has a nice cushion air system to it but I still don't want to be riding to Memphis in it! The Ford 8N does flip up to keep the snow from building up on it, maybe that's the advantage they are after...

    The original bucket seat!

Some styles just shouldn't be mixed......what's next, big and littles from the tractor they're parting out? I can see it now, "Drag that JD 'B' over here and pull the wheels for this ratter I'm building...oh, yeah, grab the seat too" LOL

I guess your too young or,,,, old  to remember that milk crates use to be made of metal...

I have been guilt of using one for a test drive around the block

It's also ironic,,,just this past saturday I heard a loud unmuffled hot rod entering my driveway that a frien had just got it running and what was his seat in the 37 sedan?,,,,a milk crate,,,late model type,,PLASTIC.:D HRP

My *** has spent many 100's of hours on a Ford 8N tractor seat, plowing and cultivating when I was growing up. Ain't gonna be one of those in my hotrod!

They're almost to that point. I've seen cars with tractor seats, grill and front tires. I don't know about using a tire at highway speeds that was designed for a vehicle that seldom, if ever, sees 20mph.

I went to a tractor junk yard looking around and found some seats that I have not seen someone use, but they looked really comfortable. I don't know what they fit, but it had sides and a low back. It was steel and no padding but it was similar to a bomber seat design.

I think the only reason they use tractor seats is because there is no room for a seat with a cushion. The cars are chopped, channelled and generally slammed so low that the driver NEEDS to be on the floor with his back against the firewall.

The tractor seat just keeps his heiny from sliding around.

Kind of a dumb trend if you ask me. Some cars are being built like cartooons....with little regard to whether they can be driven comfortably. The look is evidently more important than the functionality.

I'm thinking about starting to ask some of the extreme rodders if I can have the pieces they cut out of their bodies to perform chops and sections. Then when the fad p***es, I will have the market cornered on the parts needed to raise the tops back up to a reasonable height.

Me too. Man, I can still feel the bones in my *** tryin' to push through the holes in those seats. I've grown a little more padding now, maybe it wouldn't be as bad, but I'm in no hurry to find out.

An old tractor goes about 5mph top speed... So when you stop... No problem.

Slam on the brakes whilst going 60, on a tractor seat in your rat rod...

    Mmmmmm... Scrambled EGGS!!!!

Anything they can grab and just bolt on...... fabrication and engineering are not taken into consideration when building....

the plastic ones slip around too much, gotta use metal. also the plastic gets tired from the sun around here.

The metal milk crate is the most useful thing ever invented

How can you think a bomber seat is more comfortable than a formed-to-your-**** tractor seat??? The only bad part is if you slide forward and catch you boys on the knob in the middle of the seat!! haha
