  1. if you were closer id go wit ya..
boy you must have a few gm trunk keys layin around most o mine were always about worn out and needed jigglin to get them open try what ya got before any damage ..
ya know drillin a peep hole and coverin it with a /price dot/sticker may work out ... try to remove the dealership emblems and enlarge one hole

you know a large/ long pry bar and the right wedge block may pop em open like a fatgirls pants ... these decklids prolly easier to get closed back before trouble tho:)
only four to do how much damage could ya do in fifteen minutes
i say open em all !!!!! no matter what

If you can score a set of lock picks it's not that hard to do. Those early GM locks are super easy to pic (Yes, for those wondering, I learned how legit!). I wouldn't use the slide hammer, Might piss him off to damage the lids.

    Snipe hunt - good one.

I'd get a lock smith to either come with you or do the glovebox thing. Spend the money and give the keys to the old man when you're done.

And don't be disappointed when you don't find shit. That's my guess as to what's gonna happen. Drilling locks and twisting them out is sure-fire to fuck up the trunklid.

a wedge and cheap boreascope,or punch small hole thru seat scopes have lites on the end of them.

  5. getting the glovebox keyed is your best option other than destroy the lock. i did that on my 54' belair and it popped right open. got a box of 200 old gm keys that go with me on all my trips to look at old cars.

Don't count on the glovebox. If you can get the door open, pull the door handle mount bracket out through the door edge (under the gasket) and pull the door handle out. If they are GM they'll have a 4 digit code stamped on the handle mechanism (flat piece that activates the lock). Take those 4 digit codes to a locksmith and have them cut the keys to them and mark what car they came from. I get them done in Adrian, MI at A-1 for $5 a piece. Doesn't always work the ignition but it does the glove box and trunk. Glove box doesn't have the 4 digits marked anywhere on it so go with the door handle.

go buy a lock pick or round up all of your friends that have general motors cars. you will most likly find a key that will fit the trunk we had an key from a 58 caddy that opened a turnk of a 49 chebby.

and dont bust the old mans shit sure fire way to get nuthing out of the deal.

If he doesn't want you removing the seat, he'll stroke out when he sees you break out the drill or slide hammer.

I just had a locksmith come out, break into 2 locks, re-key them both and make new keys for $75. Getting in the house (long story) took him about 30 seconds.

But I think the old man is gaming you.
He wants you to get in for him and then he's gonna sic his dogs on you.

  11. You may win the bet, However this guy has been a great source of misc parts over the course of 4 years. I'm not getting nothing out of it, I bought the rolling 39 merc tudor for $250 off of another "old timer" I met sitting on the tailgate of his truck drinking crown and coke. The 39 Merc is how I ended up finding the HAMB. I sold the complete front clip w/ grill to Hon, the dash went to Texas and the garnish moldings, shocks and misc are still sitting in my shed. A 36 chev tudor from this place went for $200 to another local.

The local "roaring 20's" car club talks trash about these guys because they won't show or share any of their stuff with the restorers, thats good enough for me! The invite is patience and being able to handle some good natured trash talking and "crown neat".

Like Phat56 said 15 minutes (maybe more with so many cars), $75-
$100 and your in the trunks. Make the old man a set of keys, get you rims, call it a day. I've always wondered what a no-brainer looked like, now I know.  :)
