i don't know if this has been posted yet or not...didn't do a search.
anyway, in tulsa ok. june 15, 1957 they buried a brand new 57 plymouth belvedere in a concrete vault. the car was sealed in some sort of plastic, along with other typical items from 1957. they did this like a time capsule.
in 1957 they had the citizens of tulsa fill out cards guessing what the population of tulsa would be in the year 2007. they are going to be un-earthing the car june 15, 2007. the cards with the population guesses were saved. when they pull the car out of the vault in june, the person who guessed the closest to what the population of tulsa is in 2007, will win the car. if the person who made the guess is deceased , the car will go to that persons heirs.
it will be interesting to see how the car comes out of the vault, if it is in the same shape as it was when it was put in there 50 years ago.
they will also be doing a car show the same weekend that they are pulling the car out of the vault.
maybe i'm late on this, maybe it has already been posted, maybe some of you already know about it. i just found out about this tonight.

Six out of the first seven hits on a search. Almost as easy to find as 32 Ford.

Thanks for posting the date of it's unearthing. Now I won't have to open any more of these posts, to see if they dug it up yet, until mid June.

  7. I hope that box was truely sealed and didn't collect rain water all these years.

Was talking to a car pal earlier in the week that was planning on attending. He found out they are going to shroud the unearthing area in a large tent and you will have to pay to see it dug up. Then they plan on taking the unopened vault to an inside stadium to open and you will have to pay to watch that as well. He has changed his mind about attending.

The above info was verbally told to me, your mileage may vary.

i think it says tickets are like $5.00 each ($5.00 for the un-earthing, and $5.00 to see them open the vault).
i wish i could make it to see this...it's going to be interesting to see how the car faired over 50 years.
i really hope the vault was truly sealed, keeping out water and moisture. it would be a shame if the car ends up being totally rotted away.

  11. I didnt know about it either, thanks for the post,it will be interesting to say the least,i hope its preserved well.

  12. If I could make it I'd drop the $10 to see it and

Great! Take your video camera with and we will all pitch in on your tickets! Ha! It does sound like a good time!

  16. I'm sure it will be covered in it's entirety by the good folks at

    www.forwardlook.net

It's been a big deal over there for about a year now. ;)

I'd like to see it, but after spending the money to get to Tulsa, I doubt I'd have the $10.

We have friends (real enthusiasts!!) that are travelling from New Zealand for this. They've been planning it for years! Somehow I don't think the $10 will put them off (airfares to LA are $2,000 alone!)

According to an article my Dad gave me today, the contents of a woman's purse, including bobby pins, a bottle of tranquilizers, cigarettes and an unpaid parking ticket, were added to the glove compartment of the car shortly before it went underground. Also included in the time capsule were 10 gallons of gasoline and 5 quarts of oil. Maybe they thought we wouldn't still be using petrolium products in 2007. I just hope they don't let Geraldo Rivera open the time capsule like he did with Al Capone's vault,...or the car might be missing! :D

I got dibs on the tranquilizers. I heard they get stronger with age.

And I hope they are coming out of a 82 Pontiac Pheonix glovebox and not that "Christine" looking thing.

If it's changed into anything I vote for a Yugo. I can just see the winner walking away saying "no thanks"  :D
BTW, I hope everyone knows, it WILL end up on Ebay.

  24. I just read on another forum:)eek: ) that Boyd ****pinton has been invited as a special guest ( I nearly threw up my breakfast!).

Apparently Coddington is going to "***ist in preparing the car for it's unveiling".

    What a f*cking joke!

I thought the whole idea was for the (apparently paying) audience to see how the car survived, not to see it after being spit-polished by some overated knob-jockey (sorry, I mean "expert") in an hawaiian shirt.

Oh yeah! Now the greedy ****ers are going to make us pay to see this show.
I'm so disappointed in Tulsa (I live here) and I was there when they buried the car now I'm going to have to pay to see it when they bring it into a building where everybody going to be. I dont know if we are even going to get to see it dug up.

My work was asking for a few workers to go to Tulsa for about a month this Tuesday to help that plant get back on track.Well about 30 people in our Plant put their names in and I was one of three picked of the 30 to go along with a few others from other composite areas for one month. So, It looks like I might be able to see that on the 15th. Too bad Boyd will be there and $5.00 to boot
