Ya gotta love a fast car no matter what side of the pond your on!

  10. Yeah, If cars are pre 73 we dont have to pay the yearly road tax which is based on engine capacity and polutant level (My Ram was about $500 per year road tax). Bit of luck really otherwise Andys car tax would be huge.

    5mpg @ $2.75/gal means a 100 mile journey costs $55

    5mpg @ £.90/l means a 100 mile journey costs $136

    £1 = $1.99
    1 US gallon = 3.78 litres

It's not as big a disparity as it was when our gas was under $1.50/gal, but it's still pretty large...

    About $6.80/US gallon

Aren't there some "Street Cars" in the US that are considerably quicker and faster than that?

Jesus, that thing hooks up insanely straight.

Is the name of the first track they show it at, "Santa Poo"?

  21. He was over earlier this year, or late last year....

  22. Its Santa Pod....but yeah, its a bit like Poo to be honest...It was a WW2 airbase for B17's

  24. I saw a 53' vette street car at Speedorama last year that runs stupid fast - something like high 6's. I think it was Rod Salsboury?

There are plenty of so-called "street cars" running in the mid 6's, none of which are truly street legal, or much less street driven. Also, it appears as if he refueled at a standard gas station, on pump gasoline. Many of these "street cars" in the six second range are running on methanol, or at least high-octane racing gas.

    www.speedworlddragway.com
Speed World Dragway, in Orlando, FL, is the site of the Wolrd Street Nationals, which was a contest for street legal cars. The cars that compete now are closer kin to Pro-Mods, than street cars.

The car is from the "Street Eliminator" race series. They have to run treaded tyres, drive a 20mile cruise and fill up with pump gas, do a hot start and so on, just to prove they really are driveable.

Heres one of the other compe***ors, an Aston Martin with a blown (er...obviously) Chrysler motor.

I think he raced Jeff Meads Pop in Florida, not sure who won but I will ask Wilf next time I see him. This is also a street driven car...

  29. the UK regs on cars are strict compared to what you have.....every year we have a Ministry of transport test to do that looks at **** like lights, noise, body condition, brakes, etc as well as emissions most of which are harder to get thorough than what you have in the US...
Andy's car is fully legal here, MOTed, Insured and taxed (you have to pay a road fund licence and can't get that without insurance or MOT). The racing for Street Eliminator includes a 25 mile drive that has stops and starts on real roads (not just a quick drive round the strip/car park) and usually has urban driving included, the car must run on regular pump gas and there is a mandatory hot start (usually an engine turn off for around 5 mins so you get maximum heat sink in to the heads!) the cars must run full exhaust systems and legal tyres (again stricter than you have in the US)....Andy does drive this on the road and not only that he's a really nice bloke!!

I think there's a twin turbo viper out there on youtube running high 7's too.

I was at sunshine speedway out in St Pete a couple of weeks ago for the heads-up races (I hate bracket racing) and there was a dude there running a stroker sbf with the biggest damned turbo I've ever seen, and it ran 4.80 in the 8th mile. It was a street car on 10 1/2 inch tires and it was faster than all the pro-mod cars!

    Good stuff.
