  2. People here on the HAMB are into"TRADITIONAL HOT RODS",that includes "driving them".Many of them across country.Fiberglass cars are not as traditional as old steel, although if your plan is for limited street use(racecar)then go for it.What you seem to misunderstand,is that confrontation is not what the HAMB is about!Hang around for awhile, read & learn, you'll find a wealth of knowledge, support, sharing and humour. If proving performance is your goal, attend the Hamb drags, although that also is "friendly competition"as far as i can see.We enjoy old cars and the people that enjoy them.:D

Build what you want, but don't TALK about it, DO it. It don't mean shit till you are runnin at the light. Till then, all I heard was "I'm GUNNA, blah, blah, blah".

Rod bods is an Australian company aand there are many of his bodies running around over here. Just be aware that the prices on the site you were looking at might be in aussie dollars, not US.

As far as I know he does export over to you blokes, as does the other major australian manufacturer of glass blodies, Duece Customs. Check them out as well.

The quality of both these bodies is pretty darn good.

I have a Duece Customs (another Aussie company) 32 5W body and the quality is exceptional. I was talking with a rod shop owner the other day and he rated the Duece Customs well above all the others available down here. Our dollar has got really strong of late which is great for us but not so good for you guys. :)

  6. Nothing wrong w/ glass cars, especially if that's what makes you happy. I dont prefer them, ...anything fiberglass. That does not mean I wont run one.

Money is the object that makes our rides, if your short some dough, go with what you can get.

Fiberglass cars are more work; ie: electrical, grounding, solidness, bracking if its right....yadda, yadda.

    Nothing like a steel car.

For that kind of money, you can have a nice steel 31 Model A coupe. They are just as cool, if not better. :)

Build a nice Model A, sell it for a project 32.

You know, I gotta weigh in on this one, I have a 'glass body but it's 30 years old already. Hell, it's older than a lot of HAMB members (ok, not you old fuckers, but older than a LOT of the guys I saw on Congress the other night!:D). The point is: 'glass has been around for a long time because it's cheap, relatively easy to work with (I prefer it, but again it's just preference) and it's light! My little 283 boogies with my 1300# car - and I know the extra 400 # of steel would be felt. Hell, I even feel when I have a passenger! So, yeah, I agree with Chopped: buy something you can afford, put some serious sweat equity into it, then sell it for another project that may or not be referred to as a deuce until you can buy what you dream of owning. My dream car? It used to be what I am driving now - but now those damn '39/40s look so good!

check out this thread by 'Groucho' he has a rods bod 32 3 w and is building it up. Hes getting some nice comments. Hell at the prices originals are bringing what can you do?

You either have the money or you dont, if you dont, well then your either stuffed and out of luck or you look for an alternative.

I have seen fibreglass bodies done really well and steel bodys that look like shit. I prefer steel, who doesnt, but I will never own a steel 5 window wont ever be able to aford it, but I could own a glass one.

Build what you want for you...not what someone else "says" what you should build. After all its your hot rod!

I guess I get really tired of this subject,.... so here are my thoughts.

    1. Build what YOU want and makes YOU happy,...

    2. Don't listen to the guys that criticize your car, they will always be there no matter how you build it, or what you build it out of. There are guys at every show, cruise and event that make a hobby out of walking around and telling each other how this car or that car was done wrong and how "they would have done it", (there car is probably at home in the garage)

    3. When someone criticizes your car, ask to see there's if they even have one, I am sure it wouldn't be like you would build it, but they don't care what you think,... so why worry what they think.

    4. It has been my experience that most guys that have the most to say about glass vs. Steel have like a "All Steel" 48 Hudson 4 dr. and brag theres no fiberglass on there car,.......

    5. If your building your car to please others or to be excepted by some group,..... your building it for the wrong reason. Thankfully the pioneers of Hot Rodding built what they had a vision of and not exactly what everyone else was doing.

    6. I have had, and still have both Glass and Steel bodied cars, they are both a lot of work and they both have good and bad points,.. so what ?, I like to build Hot Rods, if you thought my car would have been dead on cool if it weren't fiberglass,..... maybe your the one with the problem.

If your gonna go with GRP try rodline international in the UK ..here's their website http://www.rodline.co.uk/page2.html
I used one of their 32 roadster bodies ,good quality nicely made, even with shipping to Denver with the current exchange rate it would be about $4000-$4500 with hung and latched doors.Worth a look:D

check out Roadstars #57 roadster, nuff said

if someone still has to bitch about fiberglass / steel then they don't know what they are talking about...if you want steel build it, if you don't care what the fuck the body is made of then build it, point is build the fucker and drive it not bench bullshit about what you'd do with someone else's car....

OK done with a mini rant, if your building a thumper with a cage then get a fiberglass, that way you won't waste go fast money on fixing up a shitty original body, you'll be ahead of the game...

Build the glass car and drive it for as long as it takes you to stumble upon the steel car/body/project that will REALLY make you smile and then sell the glass car to finance the purchase of the steel. I suggested that my nephew do this with a Total Perfomance T-bucket kit. He still hasn't done it but he saw the reality of it.

I'm guessing that there is someone out there who will happliy pay serious bank for a completed glass car for more then you have it in, thus putting you in the position to afford the next step.

I got lucky and literally stumbled upon my steel car. There are thousnads of people like me on the HAMB who also did and you can too. It sure helps to have the money when those oh so rare occasions come up. The sale of a nicely done glass can put you there.

Duece Customs do export to the US. Here is Ken's email address. dcustoms@bigpond.net.au He's busy and takes a while to reply but it is certainly worth it. The bodies are steeled out and REALLY strong.

There are several US outfits building 32 three windows so availability isn't a problem.

Ideally you should have YOUR body built on YOUR chassis. Chassis vary A LOT and it will make verything easier if the body is built on your frame...and don't buy a body and let it sit for months or years without it being bolted to your chassis. these things move around as they cure and what fit when it was new won't fit a year down the road.

I had a new 29 A roadster body sitting on an A frame in my shop for six months. It fit really good when i got it fresh from the mold...aftersix months you couldn't get the trunk lid to fit to save your soul...the door openings moved, too.

  24. If you're buildin' a race car buy the cheapest lightest body you can find. And beware even my daily aint a water pistol.

If you want a durable body american made (no offense to the aussie crowd) then contact redneck streetrods in Atchison Ks. He makes a beautiful Duecs 3 window. Not chopped but he'll chop one if you like.

But its a heavy street body not a race body.

Like I said if you want to race you buy the cheapest lightest body you can find. Ask Hawg mountain Dave he races a deuce.

Build what you want it aint no skin off my nose. Hell I don't like deuces anyway, they are kind of a yuppie ride.:D

    :)

Buy what you want ( or can afford ;) ) ...
For a mostly race car ... who cares ... ?

Some folks get all caught up in what someone else spends, has or builds. I could care less if you have a plastic 32, with a Hudson engine, a Packard transmission and a Kaiser rear end.
as long as you like it ...

Wescott makes a great 3W body but they are expensive ... compared to the others. I believe they are the BEST glass body ... IMHO but @ 20 grand ...

  27. Doug White at Show Me Rod and Custom (between Branson and Springfield, Missouri) makes an excellent 32 Ford 3 window body.

I have a glass 32 Ford roadster and I'm building a steel 26 Model T 2 door sedan. Both meet my definition of "hot rod". And my definition is all that matters to me.

  28. somebody on here sells them a whole lot cheaper than that. i think they're in ill. or mo. they're on ebay alot also.

  29. Ken's now exporting bodys to the US and he cant keep up with demand I hear. His product is a great deal more advanced tham the US offerings (No offence, its our road laws!).
Anything from Deuce Customs is good gear even if it is in glass, but its STILL out of my price range................
