Years back, when I worked for the Steven's, I had this hanging on the wall in my area. I love this one. It would be impossible to pick only a few favorites from Stanford.
Mr. Stanford is my number one favorite artist...without having seen his work in my teens, I'd never be doing what I love... has there ever been anyone better, or more creative? His work is flawless, and every piece just has that "personality" about it...
Steve was kind enough to illustrate my '64 Rivi for me while I was putting it together. I ended up having to sell it before even coming close to his design, and like the dumass I often am, "lent" the illo to the new owner as reference. I never got it back. I didn't even have a chance to scan it, nor did Steve.
I'm not real old (29) but I remember trying to emulate Stanford's work when I was young. His art was just really.. special. I used to enjoy Thom Taylor and Foose's artwork too.
I met Steve at Blood's old gallery in Anaheim when he had the open house on the Thursday night of the Winternationals weekend. Way cool dude. I find it interesting that the truly talented people (Foose, Blood, Steve etc) are all exceptionally nice guys and fun to hang out with. Roo Man
Love Steve's work, I wish he would put a coffee table book together of his renderings. Janne, your work is pretty frickin amazing too, I see alot of Cole influences in your drawings, pretty neat!
Let this serve notice to Stanford (and the others) that there is demand for a book of their work... I know I would buy a few.
Check out his take on what a 'new' Dodge Charger should look like. It's spot on. Let him render 6-7 ride's and have Scott Sullivan and company build 'em. A guy can dream can't he? Jimmy Smith too.
Hot Rod magazine. It's red, raked and styled w/ an R/T stripe. Will look up the issue and post it's pic this week-end. Like the lastest Ford 'stang, it's right freakin' on.
i was told that this was one of his. it is the insperation for my new ride. i would like to get a color rendering from him, any idea on cost? Trout
I thumbed thru a mag at the newsstand last weekend with a Steve Stanford feature. Sorry, I don't recall the title, but I noticed it was put out by Drag Racer mag. A Special or new monthly... don't know?
Stanford, Taylor, Foose.... these too were the guys I studied as a kid. I was reminded by my dad of the time I was hanging out around the house, perusing a rod mag, saw Foose's name and the contact info for the shop and got the nerve as a 12 year old tween-tyro to call. I remember staying on hold for 10 minutes or so, only to get the opportunity to "interview" Chip. He graciously gave me a few minutes of his time, offered his experiences and advice, and quite politely excused himself to return to work. I've before, and here, heard similar accolades of Mr. Stanford. I agree, the best in the business are also the best of humanity, it seems. And to add to the would-be-petition; I'd bust down book store doors to buy a book of just napkin sketches from any of these. Let alone a book of renderings and illustrations. I can't pick a favorite of the three any easier than I can pick a favorite of any of their work. My favorite is simply their work. Additional specificity is as impossible as additional admiration.
