not an optical illusion more that the rear spring is screwed up, the place i had shorten it didn't retemper it so it's bottoming out. the rear end will come up about 2 inches once i get it retempered so it will actually hold its shape. i also have to take a couple inches out of the grille since right now i've only got about an inch of clearence under it. everything will clear fine as long as only one tire goes flat/ blows out.

I see you're using my favorite radius rods in front, the "dogleg" late 47-48 Ford passenger cars. They allow you to hang the spring and keep the radius rod lower and more parallel with the frame.Plus they just look cool.

haven't done much on it lately (made a new steering wheel, started on a hood) but i've got the rest of the week off so i'll be putting some time in on it.

front tires are 475-17 cokers (they discontinued the firestones)
    rears are 650-17 stones

plus you don't have to bend the steering arms down as much, they're my favorite too.

    Thanks.

I have a set of those wheels also (bought them at Carlile, PA in about '94 for $5 ea), but have never had tires on them.

The fact that the rims are so narrow made me kinda nervous about ordering tires without knowing what they'd look like.

Without the hood it looks like the grill shell could stand to be chopped. But with the hood I would need a full side shot. I really like what you have going on there. keep us posted on the updates.

update for today, grill shortened, new insert made, and headlights mounted.
i wasn't really sure how the perferated stainless insert would look with the e&j's but am actually pretty happy with the way it came out.

definetly need more space but 5 or 6 cars have come out of my corner of the garage over the last couple of years, they just have to be small.

for the insert i just bought the piece of perf. stainless then made a hammerform out of some mdf and beat it with a hammer until it looked like something.

That is exactly what I want to do with my 26 T roadster. I love how it is not channeled over the frame and yet it is soooo low.:D

it's actually pretty much done, i've been driving it for about a month working out some little kinks, today i'm ditching the mag and putting in an old mallory dual point to see if i can get it to idle a little better. it is a really fun car to drive, and handles way better than i thought it would even with those skinny tires and will brake the tires lose at pretty much any speed if you really get on it.

I love posts like this. Pictures or the lack of pictures can really make or break a post. Its nice to see some early posts brought back up so some of us fng's can see them. I am making my own lake headers for my T and the pictures really helped me visualize what I need to do. Thanks.

stock fuel tank, boiled, tested, and sealed, the battery is one of those little odyssey deals under the floor. hope you get to see it in person some time, i'm almost at the point of pulling that engine and replacing it with somethig a little more suited for the street. it's a blast to drive but good it sucks alot of fuel and idles terribly.

Based on the pictures, I wasn't aware how tall your front tires are.

I ordered a set of 475/500-17 coker classics (same as yours)....holy crap those are some tall tires.

How does your car ride and handle?

yup pretty good sized but really the smallest good looking tires you can get in a 17, actually pretty close in height to a 550-16 that i'd normally run.

car handles really, really well, rides a little stiff with the short wheel base but i can take corners faster than i have in any of my previous cars, kinda like a big shifter cart.

finally got it running good again too, i took it to the scottsdale goodguys and it decided it hated arizona and was having all kinds of issues, backfiring, vapor locked really bad, etc. anyways it's good to go now and runs better than ever. it's at the point where it's scarry fast now, no more progressive linkage all or nothing.

i'm running about 20 in the fronts and 25 in the rears, but the car is pretty light. could probably go with even less but haven't messed with the pressure much since it first got on the road.

thanks tim but that isn't gold leaf, the doors are aluminum so i just did the little pattern straight onto them before the paint.

oh, right on. it looks 'goldish' in the pic

  27. Awesome Justin. Great stance, killer proportions, etc etc -- plus for a little car that Dodge back end gives you a lot more room than a stock A. I dig it. It must be a blast to drive.

How'd you get the hubcaps to attach? And can you show us some detail pix of the front spring and bones? And what steering box is that? Man, I love it. :D

    thanks again,

detonator not only does the dodge back half give me more room but i cheated when i couldn't find a set of cheap roadster doors i made them myself about 3 inches longer. i'm 6'3" and can actually stretch my legs all the ways out if i stick my toes behind the pedals.

for the hubcaps i made 4 little v shaped tabs for each one and welded them to the inside of the caps, i figured the first one i snapped in place would be stuck forever unless i cut it off but they actually worked and haven't fallen off while driving yet.

front spring is mounted off the wishbones, don't have any pics and the car is at a friends house since i wanted my garage space so i could start on the 34. i had it sitting in the driveway but the home owners assoc. didn't like it plus i need to get a good cover for it so i can leave it out in the rain, i bought one of those $40 ones from napa and didn't realize it wasn't water proof came outside after the rain and there was about an inch of water inside the car.

steering box/column is vw bus not sure the years but it's only the split window ones that have this setup. they work perfect for a lower car and are very easy to mount, the whole column just swivels where ever you want it and you tighten it down.

txrat i just got it at the local metal yard in the scrap section, they always have a bunch of 1/2 or 1/4 sheets out there i think it cost about $20 and was enough to do this one and the insert for my dad's essex.
