I know from an earlier post that this forum in not art car friendly, BUT I just found out that Robert Williams and his wife are judges for the Houston Art Car parade next weekend. Pretty cool.
I deleted my original post because I read it wrong................I thought it said car art instead of art car. Art cars are great.........................for gay pride parades.
The children of Houston and surrounding areas are delighted by the car-craziness of the Art Car Parade. Can't we allow them some fun without making it an anti-Gay or anti-anything else statement?
Close , last time I read an interview with him I think he said he invented the motorcar , shortly after being the first US President under an assumed name and a comedy beard . Not sure if he said he invented comedy beards though . And he was crap in Mrs Doubtfire too .
Holy Shit! Robert Williams rules! Thanks for the info - and you guys are kidding, right? Williams did this: http://www.orangeshow.org/artcar_judging.html
thank you! my kids love it....granted, some of the cars are just plain stupid, but other are kinda cool and clever. don't all you "BIG TUFF HOT ROD GUYS" have anything better to do than put people and ideas down....heh. thats one thing that will never change i guess. just like the f*ckin' jocks in highschool...haha.
Art cars are something I like. The Orange Show that puts on the Houston Art Car Parade is something I don't like. BTW, we once had Ed Roth as a Judge. His selection of a mild custom '40 Ford as the overall winner created a huge rift between "car" people and "art" people. Over the next four years the artists won out and the car guys were ejected from the events. The Orange Show does this as their main fundraiser - they DO do a lot of community work, and some off-the-wall low end art support. I just with they were more inclusive of other types of wheeled artwork.
Hey, if anyone who has a Williams poster wants it autographed, I will personally deliver it to Williams and seek his signature and blessing. Fuck all you naysayers. pffftt An audience with a legend is an audience with a legend. PM me if you want to mail me your posters. I will send you my snail mail addy.
My art car can beat up your art car, so there, nanny nanny boo boo, with cherries on top. BTW, I think Robert Williams is one of the greatest American artists of all time. I have an idea for an art car, I want to put fifteen spoilers on top of each other on the trunk and call it 'Spoilered Rotten.'
This is funny, I knew a guy in high school named Robert Williams, I heard he ended up being gay! The artist is bad ass, though, and I doubt he is a homo. Even if he is, I still like his work. Gotta be P.C.
He's straight and his wife Suzanne's totally hot, he's been in a lot of trouble for his supposed mysoginistic ways but I don't think he is , not one bit. I love Robt Williams' work, he is a ruler, he understands hot rodding better than just about anyone. Everyone thinks that just because you loveT&A you're a pig, that ain't true at all, oink oink.
hey robert is a true old school hot rodder.....hes probally forgot more than most know.........say what you want, but he is the real deal....also very cool and actually drives his cars.....
I think they are more into what we like these days....in fact I think the orange show folk always have been it is just some of the hippie flower car owners that cause a stink......Dusty Hill was a judge last year and I got 1st place with my 48 Studebaker Custom
WTF? in my post I stated that I am already aware of how many people feel about art cars, but you HAVE to come in and say it again anyway.....what ever........ I will admit there are a lot of crappy cars in the parade, but then again I saw some fuckin' crappy cars are the Round-up AND pistons and paint,,,,,but that doesn;t mean they ALL sucked. Open your mind and glean some of the talents that are hidden among the painted volkswagons and doll heads.
Don't suppose many would agrue with that . But there's plenty of guy's like that around , and they don't seem to feel the need to try to claim that the whole nostalgia/trad/call-it-what-you-will scene as we know it today was started by them . And then have the front to piss and moan that they don't get the recognition they feel they deserve for it . I've tried to look at things from his point of view , but there isn't room up his arse for both our heads .
If they showed up today and you had no idea who created em? Art Car parade? Roundup? Primers? Just something to think about.........
